12 Degree Driver??

I Sort Of Posted This In General Discussion, But Poll Question Might Be Better.
How About 2 Drivers? Thats The Hot Topic Here.
What Would Be Wrong With Adding A 12 Degree 460 Cc Headed Driver? My Thought Is 3 Wood Distance With The Forgiving Face Of A 460 Cc Head. Any Ideas....

Re: 12 Degree Driver??

HERE IN WEST TEXAS THE WIND IS VERY STRONG.. I HAVE ONE DRIVER THAT IS 8.5 DEGREE. ITS A GREAT TITLEIST 983K WITH A STIFF SPEEDER FUJIKURA SHAFT. iTS A LONG ONE ESP WITH THE ROLL. JUST THOUGHT THAT ADDING A 12 DEGREE WITH A REGULAR FLEX SHAFT WOULD BE NICE ON THOSE SHORTER (3 WOOD TYPE HOLES) WITH NO WIND OR A LITTLE WIND HELP. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.

At first glance a 460cc 3-wood sounds very nice.

But ... the design of a driver face compared to the design of a 3-wood face makes it very difficult to compare the two clubs.

Try hitting a 13deg 460cc driver off the fairway - or semi-rough, and then compare that to a conventional 3-wood. The driver is not an easy club when you're not on a tee.

On top of that, a driver would typically have a longer shaft and more clubhead weight than a 3-wood, so distances would not be comparable.
A 12 deg driver would (or should) be far longer than any 3-wood (no matter how "strong").

Re: 12 Degree Driver??

Doc, I'm actually considering the same thing, as my 13 gets held up going into a headwind. It's great in a tailwind, but hurts going in. I'd have to give up my 19° hybrid (leaving my longest option off the deck into greens a 22°), but would be good for other courses I play.

Of course, I may just switch to an 10.5 or 11 and keep the 19.
