Re: Callaway or TaylorMade

Previously I'd only ever used Callaway drivers - I'd tried a few others including TaylorMade and Titleist but felt that Callaway were better. However, last week I purchased an old Srixon driver (XX10) just as something to leave in the boot of the car so that I could use it whenever I was passing a driving range.

I only paid £13 for it and it is average condition; it has a head size of 350cc.

I took it to the range without any major expectations but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Didn't hit as long as my Callaway but was much more accurate, consistent and felt great. Will seriously consider going into the shop to try some of their newer models.

Lesson learnt - don't just dismiss some of the so called lesser brands

Great Mohammed,

Srixon make some great equipment. I have recently been using their golf balls, but picked up one of their drivers the other day and was pleasantly surprised.

Re: Callaway or TaylorMade

I have some TaylorMade Recoveries and a 3 Wood, they are good kit, no Callaway but they also seem good kit. Why Greg?

Re: Callaway or TaylorMade

I have gone back and forth between the two brands for years. I used to swing the s2h2 warbird titanium driver. still have it in the shop.

I am currently playing the TM 580XD with a grapholloy (sp?) pro launch shaft. I always felt that I hit it very well. The I tried my mates Callaway FT-i driver the other day. Loved it. I went to the local proshop and was tested on the launch monitor comparing the burner and the callaway. The callaway was producing much lower ball spin about 2700-3000, swing speed 103, launch 12 - 13.5 degrees. My current driver was getting 4000-4500 spin!!! the TM burner was getting about 3700. No wonder I was impressed with the Callaway. I am currently saving me coins for it. Can't beat the extra yardage for free.

BTW, I think the burner does have a longer shaft because I was noticing an easy 4-5 mph speed increase with the club---has to be shaft length.
