Stiff or Regular??

Looking for a new set of irons and not sure how "stiff" or "regular" will affect my game. Which do i go for?

Re: Stiff or Regular??

Go stiff. You need accuracy in irons, not distance.

So are you saying that stiffer irons result in less distance and more accuracy? I always thought it was the other way round..

Can you explain your reasoning?

EDIT: actually now that I think about it, I guess more flexible shafts would be whippier and hence give more distance but less accuracy. I guess you need a faster swing speed to get good distances with stiff irons.

Re: Stiff or Regular??

As a rule, yes, stiffer shafts produce more accurate results, while whippier shafts produce distance.

Now, those are the conventional standpoints. I'm starting to wonder if it has more to do with proprioception and how a player releases the club vs raw flex.

Re: Stiff or Regular??

A more flexible shaft does NOT automatically mean significantly less accuracy. Depending on your swing there may be an increase in distance without an appreciable loss of accuracy. It depends on how and when your particular swing loads and releases the shaft. Some players have swings that are going to be very sensitive to flex and other players can swing about any flex.

Of course, any time you CHANGE flex, there is going to be a period of adjustment.

Re: Stiff or Regular??

It is not physically possible to create more power by using a flexible shaft. It may be possible for some people to square the clubface easier with a flexible shaft though.

Get yourself fitted and see what works best for you.

Re: Stiff or Regular??

Agree with Brian. You should get fitted. Stiff or regular will depend on your clubhead speed and tempo.
