Spinning it out of a bunker

I am a 6 handicap, and am fairly satisfied with my short game. However, i find that when my high school travels to courses that have softer sand than the harder sand i prefer, that i have trouble getting the ball to spin and stick out of the bunker. I try and take out as little sand as possible, which is how i get more spin on my harder packed bunker shots, but even when i do this i still get a lot of roll out of these shots. Please help.

Becuase soft sand causes your feet to sink lower, you have to choak up more on the club.

You want to hit the ball a lot closer to the ball it's self then the normal "dollar bill" rule, so you now move the ball slightly back in your stance.

Steepness of attack is now bad causing the club to just keep digging in. Sweep across with a shallow angle by not using your hands as much. It is a little more of an arm swing now.

You are at risk now of hitting it thin becuase 1) you choaked up, 2) hitting it closer to the ball, 3) sweeping it. Welcome to getting it just right to get the results you want...this is why soft sand is a bear. But done right will make her dance like you knew what you were going.

Practice on a swatch of paper. If you can hit the ball and not tear the paper, you have it.

The more sand you take out the more roll you get so conversely the less sand the more spin.
Ever notice how when you nearly thin one across the green its spinning like a mad yoke, thats coz you got the ball first.
Its tough and it takes practice and lots of comittment but its a nice shot to have for the slightly longer bunker shot.
Though its not a percentage shot by any means...

Are you swinging any faster/slower out of the two types of sand?

I try to keep the same tempo, but my downswing is generally faster on the fluffy softer sand than on the firmer sand.

This might not be any help at all, but I would say, dont bother putting spin on the ball, Its almost impossible to get the ball to generate enough spin to "stick" on the green surface, If you want to shorten the shot, or if the pin is really close to you, try to play the bunker shot so that the ball will land on the frindge or the rough and let it run.

I disagree, I often spin them out of a bunker so they take on short hop and stop dead.
Its usually on a shot of at least 15 feet though.
Trying to land it on the fringe is asking to leave it in the bunker in my opinion.

Thats probably true! So ive decided to try spinning it out, Ill see what the results are. Might come in handy someday.
