mud/lowgrass

At the course it is at times muddy. My blades cut in the ground like butter.I really cant hit the ball solid with any of my clubs.But mostly my wedges.Someone please help.

I once heard a young pro named Tony Lema respond to simular a question about wet conditions while being interviewed. His answer then was to not ground the club in back of the ball, to keep the same posture/setup, but to grip down on the club about 1/8"-1/4". Between gripping down, and not grounding the club, while keeping the same posture, this caused the ball to be hit a little on the thin side, while hitting the turf after impact with the ball. Obviously this is the way you want to strike the ball with irons most of the time. The two adjustments he explained just provided more of a safety margin from hitting the mud under the grass during wet conditions. By keeping the same posture, and set up, when the wet conditions dried out, all he had to do was choke back up to his normal grip position, and use his normal club head position at address behind the ball.

Don't know who coined the phrase "thin to win" but it seems to have merit at times. GJS
