I had read somewhere (and in classic Bulldog fashion have utterly forgotten where) that the rusting of oilcan type finishes produces an cushioning softness that helps feel around the green.

Having read Brian's illuminating posts above, this has the classic ring of marketing hogwash, doesn't it?

i have the mizuno mpt raw oxide SW
it looks a bleedin mess, so if im not getting any benefit from the rust i will be giving it the wire wool clean up treatment!

Bulldog,

The ball sits on the clubface for around half a millisecond, by the time your hands feel the impact the ball is long gone, so the "feel" will be too late to have any effect.
