Re: The GTO Open Golf Day (UK Summer 2007 Tour)

I cannot get a flight into EMA (East Midlands) but I can get into Manchester for about $620. How far is it from Manchester? (Just looked it up...88 Miles?) There's got to be a better airport.

Greg,

Birmingham (BHX) is the nearest Airport , it's around 10 Miles from the Belfry. I know there are daily flights from New York.

Yep, that airport works. United has a $1,200 (us) round trip. I will have to work some OT to validate that one...Thanks for the help!

Re: The GTO Open Golf Day (UK Summer 2007 Tour)

Hey Greg

That $1200 looked high even into a regional airport so I checked cheapflights.com

Cheap flights to Birmingham, UK from ...York, NY (JFK)

Its showing $500 - $600 excl. taxes for a round trip; OK no dates showing for August on this page but I think you could save some money shopping around.

Re: The GTO Open Golf Day (UK Summer 2007 Tour)

No problem.

Hope you can make it for the comp.

If we both make it you can show me some of your drills (especially the RH) in person; I must be thick but I still can't get it.

Re: The GTO Open Golf Day (UK Summer 2007 Tour)

The Brabazon is £140 a round, but they do something called the Sunday Driver Package which is a round of the Brabazon on the Sunday, dinner and a room for the night in the 4 star hotel (the grub is fantastic) and breakfast and a round of the Derby course on the Sunday.

You were getting all that for £119 last time I went, what a bargain.

If anyone has any questions about it let me know, I organised a society outing there a couple of years ago and I know quite a lot about the place (spent 3 days there!!!)

Re: The GTO Open Golf Day (UK Summer 2007 Tour)

? 2 rounds on the Sunday, yeah? Just wasn't sure it felt like you'd described it chronologically? But 2 rounds on the Sunday would be why they callit the Sunday Driver, I guess..?

Sorry, Bulldog, for not making it clear....you play the Derby on the Monday!! If you can afford it for the Brabazon, get the buggy, it has sat nav on it for yardages and pin placements.

GTO are organising a golf day this summer in the UK... I will be looking into further GTO tournaments in other countries also... so don't feel left out if you can't make the UK event.

The days structure is still to be finalised but will include something along the lines of:

18 Holes
Dinner
Presentation
Drinks

For those who will be travelling, the venue will have a hotel to book into for the evening...

I hope to get a few pros invloved and playing in the event and some nice prizes lined up as well...

We will have various prizes throughout the day including nearest the pin, longest drive and of course the wooden spoon

This is to be a fun day out, so all are welcome...

The venue will likely be the former ryder cup venue "The Belfry"...

The weekend of August 18th is looking the likely candidate, but not finalised yet until I get an idea of numbers and availability.

Please feel free to contact me directly at gtogolfday@golf-tuition-online.com for any questions you may have around the day...

Right now I need to get an idea of how many of you are interested... so please post here to this thread...
Is the venue definitely the Belfry? I've been twice but never played there and am desperate to. Looking forward to seeing the details.
