  • i used the 3 skills and nailed it!

    hi all
as you know i have been carping on about the book "nail it" by 3skillsgolf.com since my return from the GTO golf day.
well after 3 fruitful practice sessions at the range ive had a chance to take it to the course tonight and the results were awesome!
not wanting to be controversial but as ian h touched on before how come some everyday pro can make the game so simple while most of the games elite coaches can overcomplicate things to the point where you havent a clue as to what you are supposed to be doing!
in just under 3 years of playing i have had 2 lessons, bought numerous DVD's, coaching manuals and read 100's of tips on forums like this one.
this approach has got me to a 22 handicap and thats probably where i would have stayed due to inconsistent ball striking.
then i went to the golf day and was introduced to 3skills by kevin, i bought the book and have read it through a couple of times, its so simple to follow its untrue and so i managed to groove the practice drills fairly quickly,
only had chance to play 9 due to time restrictions but it was enough to tell me that im going in the right direction!
    front 9 4,4,5,5,4,5,4,5,4!
first time i used driver was on the 2nd hole and there was an audible gasp as i nailed a bullet like draw 40 yards past everyone elses ball.
iron shots were crisp, played some nice pitches and chips.
this book has already had a massive effect on my game after only 4 days so god knows what it will be like after a few months

Wowser, look at all those 4s and 5s!!! That is awesome, you'll be looking to crack 80 with those kind of numbers.

Hopefully the swing key(s) you get/got from this book will last forever...

Good to hear, keep it up.

I know what its like to go from a double digit handicap to single digit numbers because i went through it this year and its the most amazing feeling so im glad to hear your going through it and hope the results keep getting better.

I watched "Out of bounds" last night on Setanta golf and Joe Hagan was on with the 3 skills. The female presenter was nailing it with a draw at the end of the lesson.

Unfortunately I only watched the second half of the programme and so missed the first 2 skills detailed by Joe so have little clue of the method as they were on in the first part.

Nice one Slats my back still fooked so I cant get on range or a course yet. People it 3skills no swing concept or tuition, it works if you keep an open mind,
1 hit down & find the sweetspot on your club
2 connect with the ball at your outermost point of your swing curve
3 turn the blade from open to closed
But buy the book to learn how to do this correctly.
                  FORGET YOUR SWING INSTRUCTION DVD'S

I am looking forward to getting into single figures from a 13 handicap.

These points, and the "nail it" concept, sound a bit like A. J. Bonnar's approach to the golf swing, which many people speak very highly of. He also stresses the opening and closing of the blade through the impact zone.

That struck me too but iirc lots of people on here have slated (no pun intended Ian ) AJ's approach in general and the "opening & closing" in particular - at least as many as praised it.

I was going to post and query this because it struck me that manipulating the club face like that must cause problems if you mis-time it, then Greg H posted a clip of Tiger doing something pretty similar so I shut up.

Not just on the basis (as Bulldog would agree) of "what's a 22 capper doing questioning the pros and the world's best to boot" but also because it's working for Ian and you can't really knock what's working.

There again other teachers advocate that the club face should be square at address and remain square throughout the swing in order to be square at impact.

As pooh might have if he'd taken up the game "I'm a golfer of very little brain" - and I must confess some times that brain hurts with the apparently conflicting advice out there.

I expect I've missed something though and would ask for some (gentle) correction and explanation.

                              Hi robin
the reason i like the 3 skills concept is that it is easy to follow
this is the amazing bit, i was always scared of slicing the ball so i would always ensure that the wrists didnt roll to keep the club face looking at the ball for the longest possible time and i suppose it was fairly effective.
now after practising the 3skills drill i am opening and closing the clubface and attacking the ball on the inside. the accuracy is as good but the shot shape is better and so is the distance!
dont think about timing just let it happen.
just a 22 handicappers honest opinion
