| Re: How often do we all play? Well I am envious of most of you blokes....Crikey I reckon I'm the wrong gender. I play golf once a week and get limited practice. My youngest is off to E.L.C next year - four full days a week. Now 2008 and beyond will be me time - yippee!!!! I won't be going back to work full time so, more golf for this little miss. |

| Re: How often do we all play? You're fine just as you are ![]() I was trying to see if there was any correlation between standard of play and frequency of play. On this fairly random and unscientific survey I'd say no. Or rather that once you have reached "your level" - whatever that is - then you pretty much stick there whether you play once or twice a month or every day. However if you look at the likes of Dog, Slats, Hannu there does seem to be a link between rate of improvement (to a level) and frequency of play. At least thats my excuse for not improving as quickly as them ![]() So, changing the thread slightly, any thoughts on how much does it matter how often you play?

| Re: How often do we all play? good question bdbl. i think you can get a sudden improvement , like slats , with a new swing(3skills). but there must come a point where you level out ,ie your golfing abilty stops you from improving . then its just a question of doing enough to keep to that level. i play 18 holes once a week and 12 holes 3 times a month, plus about 4 visits to practice on the range. practice mostly the short game, although recently giving a lot to the 3 skills, which is starting to work. so i would say once a week play ,once a week practice.weather permitting!! |

I think there are three major influences and many minor ones that can affect a players ability. The Main ones being: Athletic coordination, a clear understanding of what to do and targeted practice. I think that most average Joe's are capable of breaking 90 and maybe playing around the low 80's if they understood how to play and dedicated enough time to achieve and maintain it. | Re: How often do we all play? I play alot due to health issues. Walking a course at least once a week is a big plus at my age, and I have been known to walk 54 holes in a week's time on many occassions. Only if it is very hot, or the playing field has alot of hills will I not walk a course. As for keeping my game together, I find that the less I play, the more I need to practice to stay as sharp as I can. If I am playing alot, then I don't practice as much. If I take two weeks (or more) off which is usually the case during the winter holidays, I find that the "rust" has set in, and a few hours at the range is needed to play well during my next actual round. Usually the part of my game that suffers is timing when I get away from it. I play in the low 80s, and high 70s most of the time, probably 60/40. A good round is a low 70, and if I get close to 90 +/-, I can usually attribute that to the weather conditions, or (a few times) the conditions of the playing field. Yes I have had a few poor rounds for no apparent reason. Those I just write off as a poor scoring day, and just did not have what I needed to play well. I still enjoyed the time spent on those off days. For me it is kind of like riding a bike......you never forget how. GJS |

| Re: How often do we all play? Robin, thanks sweet heart. I would argue the more one plays the better they become. Obviously I have a young family and work commitments. These impact on my golf. When I have more time on my hands, I can only benefit from the extra games and practice. I have not reached my potential - yet!!! Crikey - patience is an issue and it's rapidly running out......! |
