About giving advice.

I have a regular golf partner who plays off an eight handicap, he is a real steady player until his hook appears. After a round last Fall when he resorted to leaving the driver in the bag and using his 3 wood and hybrids ( which he started hooking also ) he asked me to take a look at the practice range. I would always be pleased to help but to be honest in spite of the fact that I have been playing for 40 years and shoot in the high seventies I just don't know enough about the mechanics to help any advanced golfer.
I hate to give advice and for the most part I shun away from it when asked, we did not come up with a fix at the practice range and my pal suffered through it for a few rounds. We teed it up a week later and he boomed one down the first fairway, during the round no hooks at all, I commented on how well he was striking the ball and asked what happened to the hook. He told me he spent half an hour with the pro and first of all he was standing too far from the ball with the long clubs and secondly he was not completely finishing the swing. I can't quite grasp this at all, that being said it certainly worked for my pal, anyone have any thoughts on this ?

Re: About giving advice.

I think his hooking was a result of losing connection between his arms and body. Hooking is often a result of the arms outracing the body and swinging too much ahead an around thus hooking the ball. His distance from the ball and restricted turn were what caused this.
