Cool Price of golf in Spain

I am getting worried about the price of golf in the Costa Calida it seems our Spanish owners in general keep putting the prices up year in year out, the biggest culprits are Polaris World they forget that most Brits are on fixed incomes ie pensions and will be lost to the game for ever if they keep going up all the time. Example my course ( not Polaris ) was thinking about increasing prices this year but our society managed to talk them out of it I think, a example last year they increased our fees by 200 euros and increased the levy from 3 euros to 5 euros I play on average three times per week my expenditure is approx 2200 euros plus drinks & food per year if you think this is expensive we are the cheapest course in the area. So come on Spain start to look after your bread and butter members and give us a fair deal.

Yeah greed does get hold of everything in the end, problem is they are marketing for the people that go out once or twice a year and don't mind paying that much because they are on holidays or its a one off etc etc.
Its catch 22 you can play a lot better courses for your money over here but the day could be spoiled by the weather over there you are virtually guaranteed the weather but you paying over the odds for the game.
No easy solution apart from the ex pat members lobbying there club,
good luck

Re: Price of golf in Spain

Times have changed indeed, my last trip home ( Scotland ) four years ago I listened to relatives complaining about the increasing cost of green fees in Spain. I was fortunate enough to have a round at Royal Troon with a member, the price would have been prohibitive otherwise. For the most part increasing operating costs ( labour, equipment, materials etc. ) are driving green fees upwards. Of course you will find the course operators charging " what the market will bear " that is the greed factor.
I'm fortunate enough to live in an area ( central B.C. ) where we have a number of top class courses and a seven month season. The new club that I joined is a 7000 yard Robert Trent Jones links layout, always in excellent condition. Green fees for non members are about 30 pounds and if you are playing with a member 20 pounds. That would be about the normal cost of the top end courses in this area. Higher green fees all over is becoming a rule of thumb, there is not enough courses who are giving breaks to juniors or to seniors.
