First time out on the course (beginner)

Today, after a short time on the range, I took a cart and went out onto the course alone.
I only did the front 9 due to time.....

Heres the score sheet.

Some of the event....
First shot off the first tee... right into the sand trap.. :-\
But, a well played 7 Iron from there put me on the Approach and a slightly ****py chipshot put me on the green.

Hole2: Tee shot went right onto the Approach. I played a 4 Iron, I will try a 3 Iron next time and see what happens.

Hole3: I made a fantastic tee shot with my driver. Straight down the center of the Fairway!.. Unfortunatly, I totaly stuffed the second shot sending the ball a whole 40 yards.....

Hole5: A nice Driver off the Tee, then a kinda ****py 3Wood put me into the rough on the left of the fairway. A 5 Iron Put me onto the approach and the rest went pretty smoothly.

Hole6: Totaly Flubbed the Tee shot, then I flubbed the 3 Iron and pretty much left the rough on the left of the fairway, and landed in the rough on the right of the fairway. Then it was a visit to the kittylitter..... But, that went well, first stroke got me out of the sand and onto the green.

Hole7: Not enough club. Played a 4 Iron and should have used a 3 Iron. But, it put me within chipping range of the pin.

Hole8: Stonking... Driver put me in the rough but within 100 yards of the hole. A 7 Iron got me on the green, but a fair distance from the pin.

Hole9: Bad driver shot put the ball on the far right of the fairway, not at all where I wanted to be, but far enough away from the water to be comfortable. Nervouse of the water, I underplayed the club to be on the safe side and put myself within 130 yards of the pin. A sweet 7Iron shot put me (get this..) to within a clubs length of the pin!. No water, no sand, no rough... YIPPIEE!!!

That was it. Man, for my first try it wasnt too bad. Next time, Im going to play the whole course, and this time from the white markers....

congrats....from the look of your first 9 you've already broken the magic 100 i've heard about

i didn't do nearly as good but it didn't discourage me, like you i enjoy a challenge.

i plan to spend a lot more time on the range before i go out onto the course again...as soon as this friggin snow goes away.

bought myself a set of clubs for christmas...at least work on my putting indoors over winter.

Don't waste all that snow. You can learn to hit a fine sand shot, just paint a few balls black so you can find them!!!

Man, I practiced my putting at home, sheesh. The Greens are MUCH faster than my carpet at home.. LOL
Still. All those years at the "Crazy Golf" and "PitchNPutt" did pay off.

I used the snow yesterday to perfect my swing path. I also stumbled upon what I was doing wrong with my swing. I wasn't fully extending after I made contact, but I fixed that.

Wow!! Am I right in assuming that those nine holes are the first you have played? If they are, I am in awe.

I have been playing regularly for nearly a year now and cant come close to those scores. I enjoy every minute out there on the course and the driving range so I am happy but you obviously have real talent. Every credit to you.

Well, you gotta remeber... as I work on the course, I know pretty much where the bad spots are... and I often take my 3 Iron out with me when Im working... ;-)
It was some really lucky stuff. Today didnt go as well. Add another 6 strokes to that score.. :-\
BUT! I was playing from the White markers today, so I still feel like I acomplished something... (getting over the OB area off the tee on 8 was a great thrill)

Im planning on making an online map of the course (for maintenance reasons too) so I can examine and see how the course changes over the year.

I think you are on your way. Take each shot one at a time. Don't think ahead!!! The first one is always the toughest.

Yea it is.
Once I got my Driver going in a straight line (hole 3) it wasnt too hard to keep the swing the same as I went.

I think the DR was throwing me off some how. Perhaps the static location, or the whealth of garbage floating around my head. But on the course, Im just "Swinging" not trying to hit the ball.

I did find myself playing tacticaly, thinking what shot would give me the best line to the Pin, rather than constantly htting directly at the pin.

Oddly, I totaly screwed a Fade shot.
Now, Iv been misshitting my balls and putting them off to the right quite a bit. As soon as I do, I can correct on the next try (range shots).
Out on the course.. I had a tree between me and the green, so "Ill aim to the far left of the approach, and open my clubface somewhat to make it curve to the right......."
Okay, so the ball was in the rough and on a fairly awkward sloap side. The result, I slapped the ball hard, and sent it... straight... deadly straight... I felt no reverb in the club at all and the sound of the strike was beutiful.
"Carap".. From one side of the fairway, to the other. But I finiahed just 2 over par for that hole....

I have been playing for 6 months (pitch and putt only) and played my first proper 18holes and scored 123 the course is PAR 71.

I have to say it did rain (there are better words for it but I wont use them here) all day. And a lot of the greens had standing water on them.

Any tee shot hit the ground and stuck there in the mud or splashed in a puddle and stayed there. We did play winter rules which helped a bit.

Saying that though, there course was empty apart from me and the 2 I was playing with. No rushing or waiting. My waterproofs worked which is nice, but I did get through 3 gloves as I dont have all weather gloves. /me makes a note. Get all weather glove.

Hehe, thats why I moved from Kent to Florida.
(well, to california first, but its a dust bowl there...)

My idea of golf is the same as fishing....
If its raining, Ill just find a warm place to have a few beers and wait for some of the "moisture" to dissipate.

That said, anyone who saw the Bucks game this weekend knows it rained a little here..... LOL
