Re: Oh FFS

Tiger's Saturday chip on 17 with the guy's "ONE TIME!!!" was priceless. Someone finally got it right. 1 out of 16,852 I guess is about the same ratio as a HIO. The fans just want to be heard and recorded on tape if something great happens, and they can say it was them. 50 bucks says this guy has gotten the tape of it and plays it over and over and over, sent it to his friends, and has some kind of notorious stature now. Good for him.

I agree with GoNavy that this is not new. The more popular golf gets, the more we will see this type of "participation" (if golf can actually get more popular?!?) Fan outbursts can also be attributed to beer sold at all major sporting events. I just wonder how long it will take golf to match the soccer events crowd break outs. Imagine the 18th hole fences (they will eventually need to be erected to keep them out) and storm the field in a drunken flurry of protest to an illegal drop?

I've got an easy solution for all you who would prefer a golf match to be like a chess tournament. Just turn your sound down. You can have all the quiet you want.

Don't tell me you would miss the mouth of the south, Johnny Miller's commentary. He is the second coming of Howard Cosell......Talk about someone who is trying to make a name for himself....ugh....

The sound is the button marked "Volume"...go for it....

Chessbum...

Now lets see if I have this correct! Everyone else on this thread is wrong and the answer is for us all to turn down the volume, right . And, I guess the majority of well mannered people at the events should stuff cotton wool in their ears. I quite like to hear the dulcet tones of our Peter Allis, Sam Torrance, ET-AL, so volume control is not a solution. Pointy umbrellas used as attitude adjusters would probably work better.

So let me get this right Brian; you don't agree that the best way to deal with boorish, ignorant and ill-mannered behaviour is to ignore it?

Do you have a volume control for the players and the other fans on the golf course? You give people in general a lot less credit than I do. People can come from a trailer park and still refrain from being an idiot and still understand the game and enjoy the event. The people we are talking about are selfish bores. It is all about them. I'd love to have somebody standing behind you all day and without warning let out a war woop or a "Get in the hole". I'd like to see a skit like that on Saturday Night Live.

Re: Oh FFS

I have to say after watching the US Open I did notice these morons more than normal. It was very annoying.

Fine on a par 3s, pitch shots and even putts. But c'mon off the tee on Par 5s.

I think its deffo down to the amount of alcohol being consumed as well. I remember I was at the last British open final day at Carnoustie, and there was groups of yanks out their faces hollering all sorts of stupid stuff and not necessarily after shots had been taken, the marshalls were not impressed.

I think it boils down to the prevalent sense of entitlement. I don't know how it's going in the rest of the world, but here in the west it's definately a me, me, me world. And once money is involved? Fuggedaboudit. "I paid my money, so I'll do as I please" is the order of the day. Maybe that's why I see full divots taken out of the fringe.

Ah yes, one of my other cyber haunts is the fans forum for the football [soccer, if you must ] team I support.

The club provides coaches for travel to away games.

On the forum however many claim that they don't use the official club transport "because we have to ask permission to use our mobile [cell] phones and we can't bring on hot food and we aren't allowed to sing".

Now I've spoke to some of the posters and the sad thing is not that they realise that a free for all phone rule, or a Maccy D, or obscene footie chants, in a coach of 60 including women and children on a 200 mile journey is ill mannered and anti social but don't give a toss. No, the sad thing that they don't realise why it is unacceptable.

OMG I've turned into my father.
