grip pressure?

thangs seem to be getting better and i am looking forward to the many new challangs (make a good recovery after slicing the ball near the edge of a small lake that left me with a 170 yard approach over water to the green. i chose one club to small and the ball dribbled back to the lakes lip on the other side after landing on green edge. i then drove the ball 6 inches into the mud with my W and fell down laughing)

My question- I drive with a big bertha III. i was having trouble with it, then read that i should hold my clubs feather light. one person said, hold it as if your holding a small bird in your hands. hold it tight enough so it cant get away, but not tight enough so ya prevent it from breathing.

that helped considerable and is easier said than done(especialy once ya learned to hold it tighter, anticipating fat shots, etc) i found i had to swing much slower upon initiating the down swing and slowly build momentum as i continued toward the bottom of the swing. it all seemed in slow motion.

It is also means another little reminder note i hang from the bill of my baseball cap. i got so many now that when i look up, i have to brush them away like i have long bangs.

How does this same feather light pressure relate to the long irons, mid irons, and short irons?

I am not sure, but with my long irons i found a couple of times my left hand came right off the club handle on contact with the ball (toe contact, no ground contact, the ball was teed and i am a righty). but this could be another problem, not sure. what about mid irons and short irons, where one wants to take a divot? how do you prevent the hands and club from callapsing? it hasnt happened yet, as i hold the grip with more presure when i know i going to try and take a divot.

OR DID I ANWER MY OWN QUESTION?

thanks

pat

sorry

Sorry i yelled (cap letters). i was playing with two guys yesturday and they were playing the champion tees. i had never done that, so i was nervous and started swinging outside myself and began slicing, which didnt stop all day. by the ninth hole one of em suggested i turn more to the left, i did, and whoop, slice, next hole, he suggested i turn more left, whoop, bigger slice. at one point they had me so open i could have done a flop shot. i was so frustrated. then got home and read that turning left would increase the spin on the ball and cause the ball to go right no matter how straight i hit it. they must have had a great laugh.

pat(nervous kind of guy)

Pat,

To answer your question on grip pressure. Have a friend stand in front of you, Take your normal stance and doing nothing to your hands stand straight up and let your friend try to take the club out of your hands. If he can with no resistance it's too loose. If he pulls you over, it's too tight. If it goes through your hands with minimal resistance, it's just right.

You playing partner's had you turn the wrong way. If you slicing, turn toward the right and keep the clubface toward the target, this will cause a draw action.
