| Ugh, what a frustrating round... 105 (adj 103). - short game atrocious - irons improving but airmailed more greens that I can remember - tee game poor - putting, not bad no greens in reg, 5 fairways A far cry from the 93 last week Looks like the extra distance I am getting from my irons is contributing to higher scores as my short game was not good enough to bail me out. I wouldn't mind too much, but every time I thought, "Hmmm airmailed it from 140 with the 7i, I'll take the 8i", I either, a) still airmailed it, or b) came up way short. What gives? Another bizarre thing. Played on a course with tight fairways the last 2 outings and hit 11/15 and 8/14 fairways, today I played on a wide open course and could only hit 5?!?!?!?! Arrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Back to the range and get those 3 skills down pat I think (It was a tough week weather-wise so I didn't get in the intended range sessions before my round) I am excited about my (occasional) extra distance, but pissed that the rest of my game could not pick up the shortfall.....

First off all these ups and downs are part of the learning and improving process; it sucks but its the truth. Second, have a look at any tournament and the odds are that there will be a significant stroke swing between the best and worst rounds of any player. Take Ryan Hietala – winner of the Nationwide Tour event in Omaha, Nebraska a couple of weeks ago. He played a couple of great rounds – 64, 62 and then followed it up with a couple of mediocre rounds (for a Professional) of 70, 69. Why shoul;d you be more consistent than a pro, especially when the 93 was a milestone - the next round was always likely to be worse. Third, yeh well yes, open fairways - sub consciously going for it more - less control. And the moral is? Stick with it, it WILL get better.

| Re: Ugh, what a frustrating round... I've been noticing in the last two weeks that my ball striking has been off, and my distance is down. Rather than correct it, I've learned to play it (club champ this weekend). After this weekend, it'll be back to learning how to hit a 44 degree 9 iron 150 yards. I don't mind my scores being high because I'm hitting it further. ![]() |

| Re: Ugh, what a frustrating round... I'm currently hitting my 7i 145... I'm a long way from home. ![]() At this time last year, I would waver between my 9 and my PW from 150 (depending on the day and the weather). I got some work to do, me. |
