Angry Another new driver

I have just purchased Golf Monthly and guess what my new Cobra is now old news. The newer, longer and higher version is now for sale.

Acording to mags we should be hitting the ball around 800 yards by now. Every new driver offers an extra 20yards with the pro v1 and an even better return with the pro vi*. If you by a cheap solid ball guess what, yep another 20yards.

Is it just me or is everyone getting a bit long in the tooth with this bull****.

Disgruntled

Ian.

Ian,

I haven't seen a driver that when hit properly won't give you distance over 300 yards. Most people I know and teach are willing to spend 500 dollars ona driver and have a 2 cent swing and wonder why they can't hit it straigher. I can take $20.00 off the rack Walmart driver and out drive 80% of the golfers out there. Working on a swing method is the only way of improving. Equipment in my opinion is hyped.

The average weekend golfer drives the ball 220-240 yards. He will never have the kind of swing speed to make the trampoline effect do anything. Most play drivers that are too low of a loft and shafts that are too stiff and have too much torque. I fit clubs for my students as well as teach. Most of my students, sans the better ones, use a 11* -12* loft and a med. to med/high kick point shaft, and about 3.5 - 3.8 of torque. I have them use firm tip shafts in fairway woods and in irons steel shafts a soft regular depending on club head speed.

Swing method is the key to a successful game.

Ian,

On occasion I like to pack all persimmons in my bag. The driver is 260cc, the 5 wood is barely bigger than a golfball. I like the look when I out drive folks with the latest greatest clubs.

My weapon of choice to drive with is a Callaway Biggest Big Bertha 9* with a Dynamic Gold x-100 shaft at 45". This is vintage 97 technology I hit a mile. Work on your swing and you will have game. Once you have game, you work on the finer points of the game. Stick to the fundementals and make it fun!

I'll post some videos soon,

GolfBald
