That little Black book

sorry if this question seams dumb, but i gotta ask.

The little book i see pro's and other players carrying around, recording info..... what are they recording exactly, or what would you record.

I mean, if you play the same course over and over (local club) then you preety much know the course and what club to play and where. but yet i still see locals recording info.

any insight to this would be great... should i start doing it.

My experience and others I have palyed Golf with, is that most golfers share a similarity with regard to having a poor memory. have literally played a shot and thought to myself thats what was missing tuck the elbow in etc. then when addressing the ball for my next shot my mind has gone blank, sounds silly, but I bet nearly all golfers do the same. thats why Muscle memory is so important. So the answer to your question is yes get yourself a little black boo make notes, it will be the extra club in the bag.

My lil black book have some areas of each hole marked with the metres. On our course all we have is the 100 and 150 m marked.

One day a friend and I spent a few hours walking the course with a range finder. Picked out certain areas of note and measured. Mostly that 40 - 50m pitch and distance from tee to bunkers/dog legs.

It calms me when I am looking at the yardage - part of my preshot routine.

Now of recent times I have collated my stats, fairways, GIR'S, and so on. Just for a bit of homework for prac preparation.

Now though, all I will be recording will be my putts - golfjunkiesnr suggestion/explanation in my statistics thread.

Overall for me, the lil black book and collation of figures gives me a calming affect and a guide for future prac sessions.

I carry a little black book. It a 4X6 picture album/folder with about 20 individual clear plastic sleeves in it. In mine I have info about club yardages with regard to full, 3/4, and 1/2 swings. It also shows the club required for the distance if the shot is up hill or down hill. Info on specific shots like uphill, downhill, ball above, or below my feet. I also have info about chip, and pitch shots. Club, distance, grip, and foot placement for various short game shots. I keep little reminders of some of the past, and present golf greats' quotes that can help out during a round of golf. Probably the most important info it has is the why, and cure for any bad shots I hit. As "Killer" posted, my black book has info to remind me of things I need to do. Kind of a re-enforcement for my own on course decisions. With GPS, and lazers I no longer need to keep yardages written down any where. All golfers should carry a small informational book of some sort. It can only help your game by being your information caddy. A short read of this type of info is time well spent when you have to wait on the group in front of you. I read some where their are two types of golfers when it comes to knowing one's own golf game. Those who have not learned enough, and those who have forgotten too much. GJS
