Talking Help or hindrance?

Help or hindrance?

Having played golf for years, I have met all types of golfers bad and good but everyone a joy to have join or to join a round of golf.
In this time I have had all types of handy hints thrown at me if I wanted them or not up until now I have found it impossible not to listen and the on my next shot to carry out the pearls of wisdom, while they and friends watch while I totally duff the ball when all I would like to do is say " Thank you for your friendly advice but I can get this game wrong all by my self"

In the space of 5 months I have gone from 95's plus down to the 70's this is through lessons and 50 balls a day every day and weekends about 300 balls at the local driving range. I have had to start from scratch and forget every thing I have been told before and just listen to the pro and no one else.

Then for one brief moment I let my guard down, up the driving range a friend noticed that I was bending my arm on the back swing too much, and told me the perfect cure, I can laugh now but at the time it was terrible. He told me to cut a 2 litre bottle of coke's top and bottom off "a smile should have appeared on your face at this moment" and place it over the left elbow and this will stop the so called bending. and I have to say I tried it and to my surprise it turned my swing into a bag of spanners, for two weeks of f'in and blinding at total strangers at the range I had to call upon the guidance of my pro who soon put me right on the coke bottle theories in no uncertain terms.

Does this ring a bell with any of you and have you any mad hints that you can share?

I've used the bottle technique because my arm used to bend too much too. The truth is your arm will bend if it's in a bottle or not but it did help me from bending it too soon and overall it helped me in consistency.

Golf is a game which is forever changing and there are all sorts of gimmicks out there to help you grove a swing and keep nasty habits in check. Personally I just use a swing trainer ( a weighted club) This really helps me drive with the legs rather than the upper body. Sometimes I take the weight off the end and attach a length of ribbon - When I swing, a streamer effect helps me to see my swing plain a little better.

I've heard people say they are self taught; I don't hold with this. The truth is it's really difficult to see bad habits creeping into your game by yourself - It is much easy to see why your playing apponent hit a bad shot.

The best advice I can give is to go and have lessons from your club pro. This doesn't have to be every week, I go and see mine once a month. keep in mind that tour pros continually have lessons while they play.
