Re: Whats your opinion on rescue woods!!!???

Hi gsp,

Hybrids conform to the Rules of Golf in regard to equipment compliance.

Golfers have proven themselves to be arguably the most honest of sports players. They go above and beyond to protect the integrity of the game. When you consider that the vast majority of professional golfers on all tours have at least one hybrid in their bags, would your friend consider they are cheaters?

I sometimes have three in my bag.

If you do a search for "hybrids" using the search tool above, you will see many interesting threads on hybrids, how to swing them, etc.

Ted

Re: Whats your opinion on rescue woods!!!???

Ask your friends what they think of belly putters, 460 degree drivers (for once they weren't), modern balls, 7 woods etc, etc - all in the rules.

As to what I think of them - with one exception - I love them, can't hit a 4I for toffee but can biff a hybrid away quite happily. The only problem / exception is that once in a while (senior moment?) I set up, the offset looks awful and I can't work out what to do. My prob though not the club.

I have 12 irons (2-LW) in my regular bag that are all hybrids. Sometimes I pull the 3i and replace it with a 7W. I even own a 9W. All are quite legal to use. Your friend should give hybrids a try. He won't go back to what ever club he is currently using. GJS

Re: Whats your opinion on rescue woods!!!???

Hi GJS,

One of the guys in my senior league is about 5'-5" tall, stocky, 75 years old. Heck of a hockey player.

He always shoots in the low 80's and often into the mid seventies off the middle tees. He hits a stiff driver about 220 yards. But he falls off in distance with other clubs. It's remarkable, but he plays a 13 wood for 100-110 yards, way up in the air and deadly accurate, with check. I played with him on Thursday and as an example, he hit the 13 wood and I hit a sand wedge for a 100 yard uphill par 3. He also carries a 11 wood, and other regular fairway woods. Somehow, he stays within the 14 club limit.

Re: Whats your opinion on rescue woods!!!???

Hi GSP

Well I would not raise up to his remarks about them, as just be confident in your own mind about them.

This will put you at an advantage over him!!! As if he can't accept that they are legal and some pros even use them, then his mind wont be focused when your in a match with him.

I love my 19deg rescue, even use it as a putter, if I am on the green frindge and miles away from the hole.

Cheers
Mark

Re: Whats your opinion on rescue woods!!!???

i'm not a love of hybrids, however the best ones i've hit have been other peoples. lol.

i love my irons. hitting a 3i 190m is no trouble for me, i love the feel and the balance (light weight) of the club.

i go 3i, 18d 5wood, 9d driver.

I would tell your friend to take it up with the R&A if he thinks its cheating.

That would be a short and possibly amusing conversation.
