Thumbs up Hooking and Pulling

Hi. I used to be the biggest slicer of the golf ball u could probably ever see. Now recently after starting to play golf again after the cricket season I step up with my driver and 80 % of the time hook it terribly. Also on short par 3's hit pull my 7 iron and up at times 20 yrds to the left. Can somebody tell me how the following things could be causing this.

Club Position in stance.

Direction club is poiting at top of swing.

And direction of follow through.

I have not had a good start at getting back into golf but would definitely like to.

P.S- I also have a problem with my fairway woods. I top them of the ground but not my long irons. It was the opposite last year.

Thanks

Naz

Re: Hooking and Pulling

Hooking

The reason for this is the shaft is pointing so far to the right of the target that you are going to one of two things.

You will either flip your hands over to get the ball to travel to the target
OR
You will push the ball of to the right

Things to look for
Strong grip your right hand is too far under the club
FIX weaken your grip by moving your right hand over to the left so that it sits a bit more on top of your left thumb
Alignment. You are aligned too far right of the target(this is where your pulls are coming from)

Align well left of the target

Here is a drill

Align yourself parallel to a target on the practice facility by this I mean(that your shoulder hips and feet are aligned parallel left of the target) You can accomplish this easily by putting a club on the ground that points at the target and then lay a second club down that is parallel.

It will look like this

| |

The first line (the one on the left)
is where your body is aligned
The second line(the one on the right) is the target(ball to target line)

Get some powder and draw an X along the ball to target line

Practice taking the club back along this line \

Let me know how it works
