| for months i wondered what or why they were doing it, now i know but does it work. i have seen pro players after player do this side throw action with their right arm after they miss hit a shot. i didnt know why they were doing it till today. i saw on the golf show an explanation and now i wonder if it works and cant wait to get to the driving range to try it. supposedly, hogen in his books wrote, that the right arm funciton was similar to a short stop throwing a ball to second base and that this related to the right arm follow through in the golf swing. does anyone know about this? or is it a function that is naturally occuring during the swing. my consintrations have been toward lower body swings or pivots, hips, mid waist, shoulder, etc to swing through the ball. so now do i have another body part to think about???? thanks pat |

| Pat, I also saw that on the Ben Hogan swing show yesterday on the Golf channel. Wally Armstrong, a former pga player who is an instructor now, also emphasizes that "baseball" type movement on the downswing. He said it is the same movement as when you try to skip a rock over water. This actually helps you get on that inside track on the downswing. It has really helped me with my outside to in tendencies. In fact , I don't even think about the hips and pivots and all that stuff anymore. Good luck. |

| Re: for months i wondered what or why they were doing it, now i know Nice topic and hoping to learn a little from it,please read this and respond as to what you think. http://www.golfbetterproductions.com/ben-hogan.asp it also puzzles me why looking at hogans pics further down his left foot is bent right over on the back swing(almost like a trailing action)granted his heel has not lifted but I used to enjoy a little movement on my left foot and now my teaching pros been drumming me to keep that foot mostly passive, since the last year my games never been really the same I think I will try and go back to what I managed best myself. Played a game since posting this and had a very nice round by my standards (83) handicap is 14 played about 20 times this season and all were in the 90s or even 100+ so I can only assume that doing what I like with my left foot has improved my game,I also read a little on some teaching pros that are incouraging lifting of the left foot so I now think each person should follow a instructor that best suits them since there are so many discrepencies with what each person says about the golf swing. The only things I found they all agree on are firstly the grip secondly the weight must transfer from right to left on a good tempo and swing plane must be the same from hip height on backswing to hip height on follow threw, what happens inbetween is down to the individual.
