| Re: Best shot ever I've already posted my best shots, but DNA's shot reminded me of the best shot I have ever seen: In June of 2000 I was playing in a tournament and on the 9th (our 18th), my playing partner was in the middle of the fairway 240 yards out on a par 5. He caught a terrible lie, right in an old divot. If that wasn't bad enough it must have been a 'chopper' who took the divot because it was almost at right angles to the line of play and it was DEEP. Almost half his ball was underground. We called for a ruling hoping it would be called as either GIR or extraordinary ground conditions but no such like. He ended up taking his 3 wood, he gripped down 2 inches, put the ball opposite his left foot and played it like you would a 'fried egg' It had almost no effective loft at all.The ball (and 2 tons of turf) took off towards the green ... it came out seriously HOT and low. It flew about 100 yards and ran all the way onto the front edge. He 2 putted for birdie and ended up making the cut by 1. No doubt, the best shot I have ever seen. It took courage, a serious amount of imagination and one helluva lot of talent to get the ball out and keep control of it.

Re: Best shot ever We thought so too ... even though we were playing a strokeplay tournament as his marker I was on his side. It must have been a serious hacker who left his mark. But once the referee made his ruling, that was that. If we argue or cause problems on tour, we can get fined. Only Seve can cause **** and not get fined.

Re: Best shot ever I had a similar experience - tee shot on a par 3 with water infront. My ball plugged infront of the green, about 10 yards short. Only about 1/2 inch of the ball was showing, but the ground was quite soft, but not squishy. I pulled my SW and hit as hard as I could into the bank. All I saw was mud come up and when I asked where my ball ended up, they pointed towards the cup - I was 4 inches short!

Re: Best shot ever my best ever shot, was the second on the 17th at the club I used to play ashame they shut it down. I was 150 yards out, knowing the ball always rolled left on this green I aimed the ball to the right side of the green. I hit the ball perfectly it landed right where I was aiming and rolled left like I knew it would and I found it in the hole. My friend were more excited about it than myself.

Re: Best shot ever Guys When I started this thread I think I should have called it the great escape.....you have all added some great shots, I think everone should add to this thread every Monday morning with their best shot over the weekend. I have a great shot to add or not so great....it was the Clubs annual Carlsberg Open 2003....18th green I had a dead straight 10 foot putt and sunk it for a gross 77.......I won with a net 67 playing off 10. It was great for me anyway it was the first time I got down to single figures.....pity last year I just stayed there without improving, I have a good feeling about 2005. I hope you do. Ian.

Re: Best shot ever Wow! Reading this really wants me to go out and play in stead of setting here in front of the computer. Well I've been playing this game for about 13 years now and my best shot was about 8 years ago. I was playing on the Bellville course near Cape Town, South Africa. It was the 11th (or maybe the 2nd, not sure what tee we started from. too long ago ), anyway the 11th for the day. It is a par 4 with a 90° dogleg right and fairway sloping away to the left. HUge pine trees to the right of the fairway. So if you don't hit your drive out to the corner, you're blocked out by these trees. This is exactly what happened to me, skied my drive a bit and it came up short, about 180 metres (200 yards) left to the middle of the green. I normally hit my 8 iron around 160 metres (175 yards), but I had to take an 8 to get over the trees. I decided to go with the 8I and just give it all i got. I hit it sweet with a nice high soft fade. Ended up 2 ft from the hole Since then there's been a lot of golf played, but this shot still sticks in my memory.

Re: Best shot ever 1 down walking onto 17th tee put the second shot into the bunker and needed a birdie. You guys just know when youre gonna hole something, walked into the bunker and knew, this was in perfect lie straight roll to the hole could easly see the spot to land it, struck it perfect and watched it lip out. Not successful but to nearly pull it off under huge pressure, thats why we play.

Re: Best shot ever I've only been playing for a very short time so mine really isn't so great, but I was very happy with it. It was on a short par 3. Took a 6 iron and put it off to the left about 20 yards. Ended up with a decent lie. The only problem is that there was a row of trees and bushes in front of me blocking my way. I'm not good enough to play a flop shot and didn't know if I could get it over the trees any other way. So I decided to roll the dice and punch it through the trees. I caught it perfectly and the ball hit the fringe and rolled to about three feet from the pin. 1 putted for par. Travis
