No Capt. Monty

I read today that Monty has turned down the captaincy for the 2006 Ryder Cup. He wants to play ... not be the Captain.

In the article it says that Monty feels he's hitting the ball better and feeling better about his game than he has in years. He's going to playing a full schedule in Europe and the US in 2005.

I'm not at all suprised ... he is too good a player to bugger around like he has been doing the last few years.

Good for Monty! Hopefully his back holds up for the season. He will easily make the team in '06 so why would he be captain? They should ask him again in 2010 - there should be no reason he can't play in '06 and '08 and be one of their best.

Re: No Capt. Monty

Oh yes, he's got the game. Not sure where the British Open is being played in 2005 but he surely must have a good chance.

The Masters might see him have a chance if he can putt like he did at the Ryder Cup. He's driving the ball well, irons and pretty good ...

I think his best chance is probably the US Open and PGA where the field is "equalised" to some extent by the tough golf courses. Going on the warm reception he's received from the crowds in the US lately, he may play a bit better. But don't forget ... he's been runner up in the US Open twice and once in the PGA! He's been there before ...

Yep, I'd say he has a good chance.

Re: No Capt. Monty

I have noticed he has been received better in the US, I also noticed that when he played in the Target Challange he had a no-nosense approach with his tee shots,

I Saw the old Monty back.

Could be worth a bet.

Ian.

Re: No Capt. Monty

I think Langer is the best choice for the captain again. He was too good just to do it once !
