What did Santa bring.

I got a new 7 utility wood and a chipper. The 7 wood is sweet 220 meters straight as a die off the mat. Still playing with the chipper it swings like a putter but I feel I want to use my wrists. I am hoping to avoid this as I feel more in control when using my sholders. Advice is as always welcome.

Re: What did Santa bring.

Santa brought me an organizer rack (spot for a pair of bags, shoes, balls, etc), and my membership for the 2005 season. I guess I'll have to supply my own clubs!

Re: What did Santa bring.

My family is not allowed to buy me golf equipment - too many chances of them not getting the right thing. I did however get a book. I received Golf Digest's Breaking 100, 90, 80. It hits all areas: tees, fairways, bunkers, pitching, chipping, escape shots, hitting for power and accuracy as well as a section dedicated to fitness. There are a ton of great drills for every level of golfer. I will do a full review when I get a bit more free time.

I did buy some new equipment with my Christmas cash. As per Golfbald's suggestion, I purchased Ashton Golf's X-1 3 wood. These guys are really making a name for themselves with their driver winning the 2004 Re/Max World Long Drive Championship with a 426 yard drive. Here is Goldbald's review on their fairway woods.

Re: What did Santa bring.

Gee thanks Gord.

Now I gotta know - where did you buy the club, how much did it cost, how long to get it shipped, and have you had a chance to hit it yet?

It sounds like it's a FW that plays like a utility club.

Re: What did Santa bring.

Hi Ben,

I ordered my club head from the Custom Club Shop in Ontario. Since Ashton is a Canadian company, I figure it is up to us Canadians on GTO to support them! They may let you in on their year end clearance sale if you order today (10% off). Shiping costs to Alberta were about $14.

Other suppliers across Canada and the rest of the world are listed on Ashton's site www.ashtongolf.com under Distributors. The 3 wood head is only $64.95 Canadian - $49.95 US.

If the 3 wood is as good as the review, I think I will venture out to get their X-1 driver as well!

Re: What did Santa bring.

Seeing as how they're in Mississauga, I think that maybe I'll have to pay them a visit in the spring, get fitted, and get clubbed!

Re: What did Santa bring.

Golfbald just told me that Ashton is making a change in '05 to the heads. Currently they are 31mm in height but the '05 model is going to be 35mm. He said the head is really hot and with the right shaft (he suggested the Accuflex Evolution) this will very likely replace your driver!
