Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

I always start stretching about 2 hours before my tee time. I have a net in my backyard I hit a few balls into before Ileave for my round. On my way to the course I listen to music to get my adreneline going then practice chipping and putting on the practice facilities to get the speed of the greens down.

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

I drink water with a light meal. By light I mean not fatty. The last thing I want to do is eat real heavy, greasy foods then go out and swing a club. I also just try my best to relax. Once I get to the course I do quite a bit of stretching. I'm in the U.S. Marine Corps and before we do anything physical related we stretch. I go through pretty much the same routine as I would if I was going to run 3-5 miles. You could be suprised at the increased flexibility your body has after a good regimen. Provided that you do it properly. After I stretch, I go and hit a small bucket of balls starting with my short irons and working through to the woods. I just hit them real easy as to not over exert myself. Then I go tee-up!

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

Usually my window of opportunity is small - so I call ahead, get a tee time, drop off the kids, drive to the course, check in, do a quick stretch, hits some balls into the net, take two dozen putts, then hit my mulligan drive off the first tee, then start my round.

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

I have been doing this for about a year now and have been amazed with the results from what seems like not very much effort....handicap dropped by 2.7 last year....

I turn up about 90 minutes before tee time.

5 minutes stretching

20 minutes hitting 5 balls with each club in the bag to warm up

10 minutes hitting balls with the 7 iron to see what I have in the bag today shape wise and distance wise

10 minutes to hit 20 3 foot putts and 20 6 foot putts

10 minutes to play 18 holes on the putting green using a par of 36 and trying to break it.

10 minutes chipping and holing the putts that result tring to get down in 2 with each ball.

10 minutes on 3 footers and 6 footers again.

10 minutes in the pro shop getting stocked up on water and tees and stuff chatting with the pro and my playing partners getting relaxed before tee time

5 minutes warming up again witha few swings with two clubs in the hands then its game face on

I used to turn up 10 minutes before tee time and play rotten for 4 holes and then play level fours for the rest but still shoot 78-82 because of the four bad opening holes. Now im ready from the start and my scores have dropped into the low 70's (70-74 my average in medals for the year was about 73 including a couple of 80's!!!) and I even managed a 69 in one of the Club Championship qualifiers which I had never done off the white tees before (our longest) and certainly never in the most important comp of the year.

I am frankly disgusted with myself that I didnt start this regime sooner

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

Mostly arm and shoulder stretches DNA, try www.muscle-fitness.com they should have some good stretches just try and ignore the superfreak physiques!!!

I cant really describe the stretches adequately in few words so just do some web searches for what you want as I say concentrate on arm and shoulder stretches but look for a few lower back and leg stretches. Get those large muscle groups limbered up.

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

Leg exercises are very important, especially if you are walking (which you should be since you are still young!!) Make sure you stretch your hamstrings, glutes and calves properly. These are the most used muscles when walking and this is where the power is stored on the backswing, so it's good to keep them limber. Remember, stretch slowly and DON'T bounce. Hold the stretch as long as you can - up to a minute if possible.

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

Geez, you guys over do things!

A good strong coffee before hand to settle the nerves a bit. I just pitch up at the tee box 10 minutes before hand, pull the club, take a few practice swings and fire away...

Really, even on tour I never hit balls before the round. If I was forced to be at the range before hand (yep, some tours insist on it) then I'd hit 10 wedges, 10 7-irons and a driver or 2 over about 30 minutes and then head to the tee.

Stretching and stuff - never done any of that before the round either.

Bad I know but it works for me.

Re: What Do You Do B4 Round?

Before, I tee off, I sign in, go to the first tI go, I have tried hitting balls and practice putting and chipping before a round but it don't help my scores at all. I must say that I do strect after my round. So my muscles don't get tight when I cool down.
