David Duval

Morning Guys,

I can't believe what has happened to David Duval he shot an 82 yesterday and an 83 last week.

It has got to be mental because he has a great swing.

It just goes to show that there is serious thought needed at all levels about the mental side of the game.

Come on David, we miss you

Ian.

Re: David Duval

He must really hate himself for those scores, I know with me in bowling if I shot under 190 I go home and kick myself. But in golf I would feel happy with an 82. hehehe

Re: David Duval

I saw an interview with him last week. He has lost his thrill for the game. He has changed his priorities in his life to his family.

If he ever gets the desire to play at his previous level again, he could be a threat, but until he gets the hunger for winning again, he will be shooting horrible scores.

Until he jumps into one of his $80K car and drives off to one of his $1M+ homes.

Though life.

Re: David Duval

Duval was too easily satisfied with the one Major, I think. It became sich a big thing for him that when he achieved it there were no more horizons. I think he suffered more than most from the Tiger effect. But for Tiger, Duval would probably have three or four majors at least. He has come to the same end as Johnny Miller in realising that there are things beyond the game. It is probably hard for us (well most of us) as amateurs to imagine getting bored with playing golf and looking for other things to occupy the time. Al has it pretty well down as well, he will never want for cash again (unless theres a Tyson like spending spree in the offing) so there's another motivation gone.

He does have one of the classic actions. But his temperament has always been suspect. He is just a bit too cold and just at moments when he needs a bit of passion, as a release more than anything, he cant seem to spur himself on. Perhaps in private he rants and seethes about losses just as some of the more emotional players, who knows?

I would really like to see him back contending again, I like the way he goes about his business when he is on form and like Phil Mickelson you always got the feeling he could go really deep if he got on a run.

D.

I'd also like to see Duval contend; I love seeing golfers that add a bit flair to the game, Duval and his Oakley sunglasses, Payne Stewart and his knickers (RIP Payne), Parnevik and his turned up brim and wild colored slacks and Tiger and his red Sunday shirts. There's something very special about these guys that's hard to put a finger on, but for some reason I really like seeing them in the field.
