Superstitions

I wonder if any of you have a golfing superstition?

I don't have any superstitions per se, except that I have to feel 'comfortable' with the tee and golf ball I use. Sometimes I just get an uncomortfable feeling with a tee or a ball (or both) and I change them immediately.

I also only use tees with my name on them.

Re: Superstitions

We had a thread like this not too long ago. But we have added many regulars to the site since then, so this should be interesting. If you are interested in looking at the past remarks on what superstitions people had: http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/v...=superstitious (Superstitious)

My superstition occurs when I am putting. If someone else in our group has holed their ball, I have it in my head my ball won't go in. Something my buddy once said about there is only enough room for one ball.

I also have a medallion of my family crest that I have to wear on the course. If I don't I end up shooting rediculously high scores.

Agh.. that's horrible just thinking about it. I'd have to ask my partners (on a leisure round of course) if they would mind putting first, then taking their ball out of the hole before you putted.

Re: Superstitions

I make friends with the ball I'm using. if we don't have good chemistry, I use it for practice shots into the bushes or river. I need to feel good about the ball. The brand doesn't matter either hard or balata feel. If I pick a ball up I need to feel good about it. Or my swing goes bad.

For me, every club has its own home in the bag - and they all have to be @ home or I can't concentrate.

Re: Superstitions

I'm actually superstitious about having superstitions, if that makes any sense.

Golf is a game of routine and repitition which can easily lead to strange foibles and superstitions. They can be great when they work, particularly if they get into the minds of your competitors, like Tiger's red shirt on a Sunday. Unfortunately they can be a precarious prop - what happens when it stops working for you? - like Tiger's red shirt on a Sunday!

So, while still having a pre-shot routine and all those things that make up good course management, I like to change little things around. For example, using a different make of ball, a different glove and hitting drives left handed (only joking!); and what do you know, most of the time the result is exactly the same.

Re: Superstitions

I have to have scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast before playing and a milk drink after nine holes.

How sad is that

Re: Superstitions

I have two, the one I follow too the "tee" literaly and the other not so serious.

The first is that I never pick up "foreign" tees lying around on the golf course, very simple you would think. But sometimes after I hit my tee shot, I'd pick up the first tee that I see, thinking that it's mine. Only to realise that it's not when it's to late. Next shot is always very nervy.

The other is more a feel good superstition. I like to take out the next club I'm going to hit as soon as I'm finished executing my shot. I need to sort of bond with the club, by holding it while I walk down the fairway (or into rough ). Most of the time it's difficult as I don't know what club I'll hit next, except when I'm on the green. But when this works the best for me is if I can see what club I'm gonna hit on my aproach and start "bonding" with my iron as I walk up the fairway. I guess it's moe to do with the fact that I'm confident about the shot I need to hit than anything else. You guys should try this, it's a real nice feeling walking down the fairway with "the" club in your hands.

Re: Superstitions

Anyone else......

I am not superstitious at all really but I find that if anyone in my group starts talking golf swings, or how good or bad mine or their swing is it cracks me up.

I never talk swings on the course.....!!!!

Re: Superstitions

I found a ball after nine holes on my first roundwith "pro" written on it (my losses to that point were in double figures) and it survived till the end. Now I always carry the pro in my pocket and it has become a bit of a cult for some of my friends, who ask how the pros feeling before a round!

Re: Superstitions

I was getting ready to tee off over a small pond, my friend suggested I wet the ball first. Why? He said golf balls are attracted to water and if I wet it would not land in the pond! I laughed and topped the ball straight in! From then on I ALWAYS wet my ball around any water.

Re: Superstitions

I have two. Firstly, I only use balls no. 1 or 3. My second, the same as low post, my clubs have their place in the bag.
