My first 70

Some of you know I have made some major swing changes this winter but how good are they going to be?????

I played my own course on Saturday all our greens are open and we use the slightly shorter tees in winter, although these are grass tees especially kept for winter.

I had four birdies and four bogies for a level par round of 70, I know that the course is slightly shorter but the ball doesn't go as far etc, anyway it shows a clear improvement of my game both physically and mentally.

I thought I would share that with you because the pressure was immense for the last two holes I had to par in, and I managed to overcome this with two no hassle last holes. What I can't believe that I found myself complaining about the two birdie opportunities I missed for a 68.

I would like to thank GTO and all the people responsible for giving advise that has helped me achieve this goal, I just have to do it in summer of the back tees now.

Ian.

Re: My first 70

That's excellent! Now the big goal is to break 70.

I shot my first 80 last week so now that's the psychological barrier for me. It's funny how one shot seems like such a big difference.

Re: My first 70

Just because it's a par 70 does not make it anyless difficult, At Karana Downs it's a par 66, and it has 7 par 3's and 1 par 5. but because of the long ruff and the shallow fairways it makes this coarse so much harder than some of the longer ones.

Re: My first 70

Not only is it a big difference, but you usually have a few choices where you'd like to make that shot up!

Thanks guys,

we have 5 par 3s and 3 of them are 200+ hence par is 70.

1, 4 10, 5
2, 4 11, 3
3, 4 12, 4
4, 3 13, 3
5, 4 14, 4
6, 5 15, 4
7, 3 16, 5
8, 4 17, 4
9, 3 18, 4

Re: My first 70

Congrats Ian! All the books on the mental side of golf have paid off!! To finish par-par to shoot 70 really shows an improvement on that side of your game, based on some of the conversations we've had in the past.

Re: My first 70

Way to go Ian. Thats fantastic. What percentage of golfers world wide have ever shot par? I don't know but man youre right up there now.

Hope you kept a copy of your card for the photo album you've just acheived bragging rights. Oh to be a fly on the wall when you told your mates that one

Re: My first 70

Just checked your profile. If your still off a nine handicap don't ring me. I'm not playing you in stableford or matchplay. Don't mind losing but not interested in a butt kicking thanks

Re: My first 70

Thanks guys,

Kiwi, I have kept the card but it was only the winter league competition off the front tees, each hole is reduced by about 20-30 yards, so as much as I like to think I shot a par round it doesn't really count because it's not a summer competition off the back tees.

That said I did enjoy the round very much and you can only play the course in front of you. I have also worked very hard this winter on improving my game ready for the forth comming season, which after this achievement is now looking better.

In winter I play of 6 due to the course length.

Ian.

Exactly. Be proud Ian. What's the difference between shooting par on your home course being short, and shooting par on a short course?

If I ever shoot par, I won't care how, when, or where I shot it.

(That said, the only time I'm under par is playing TW2005 on my PS2!)
