Honesty

I am not a member of a club, only a society, therefore from October to April there is no one to alter my handicap (no society comps or casual days). This winter I have worked tirelessly on my game and I am now regularly playing off 8 (my own assessment). Thats 5 shots better off than my HCP, what do I do ?
I have not played with any society members therefore my cards have not been signed and would not be accepted. I know at the next comp I will get slated if I play like i am now. Not my fault I know and i will get cut for the second comp. My goal is single figures and not false trophies. Do I plead with them to accept cards signed by friends etc or do I say well I worked hard to get a 5 shot cussion on my HCP and the others could have done the same so I deserve the advantage.

Re: Honesty

Why would you get slated? and why do you adserve an advantage? i reckon you should just get cards, and just ask your m8s to sign them, not plead

Re: Honesty

Offer your scorecards. If you're refused, you can't be accused of sandbagging.

Re: Honesty

I agree. If they won't accept cards that would lower your handicap, then it's not your fault.

Re: Honesty

I'm with you all on this one: offer the scorecards and if they don't take them, well then there's nothing else you can do.

Re: Honesty

Think how nice them trophies will look on you mantle piece.

But remember everyone else will have worked on their game this winter hoping to win a trophy. (have they all handed cards in) I DON'T THINK SO.

Don't hand your cards in you did that all last year that where your h/capp comes from, this is a new year and you deserve to win after your hard work.

If I could hand my cards in for friendlies or winter rounds I would be nearly off scratch.......comps in summer are different.

Ian.

Re: Honesty

Ye I have offered cards were I have played with mates and work colleagues but the HCP secretary said that they cant count and gave me them back. S its their fault then. Gonna like this if I play as I am now my last 2 rounds were 75 and 74, off 12.6 that equates to a 72 and a 71 (par for course 71). Mind you the courses we will be visiting wont be my local therefore I think a few extra shots will be made due to strange surroundings.

Re: Honesty

Dont beat yourself up, Keith. We all play well when not under the gun with card and pencil. Dont worry, you will get cut soon enough when you hand a few counting cards in. Personally, my target in every comp is best gross score. Then the simple fact exists that you have played better than anyone else on the day handicap or otherwise.

You wont be alone in having done some good work over the winter believe me, so dont feel guilty. If you win anything its just your reward for hard work and dedication enjoy it.

D.
