Re: shaft is too long

Weeeelllll, you can shorten the shaft yourself, if you like.

You simply remove the grip, cut as much off the butt as you like, and install a grip.

That said, now we're talking about details. First, is the shaft steel or graphite?

If it's steel, you can use a pipe cutter (tubing cutter). If it's graphite, you'll need some masking tape, a grit edge blade for your hacksaw, and a vise. They're all equally important.

You'll also need a new grip, some grip tape, and some grip solvent. (The latter two items are required to install the former item).

The easiest option is to try out your new driver. If you don't like it, then modify.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Thanks for the tip! I am thinking about shortening my shaft.... does a shorter shaft usually equal greater accuracy.... I have a standard sized shaft - I am about 6'00 tall - I suppose I should start with an inch - and take it from there...

thanks

James

If you are 6'0", becareful shortening your shaft. What is the current length of your shaft? If you are are still determined to shorten your club, choke up on it for a bit to see if a shorter shaft is going to suit you. If so, hack a chunk off, but go in 1/2" intervals. 1" is quite a bit when it comes to shaft lengths!

Re: shaft is too long

Spot on Gord.

My theoretical knowledge states that by shortening an inch off the butt, your flex may increase (play stiffer) about a half flex, depending on the shaft.

This in turn should help your accuracy some.
