Club Fitting

Are there any newbie’s who have gone from standard (off the shelf clubs) to having clubs fitted…. I am wondering if you noticed a significant difference in the clubs playability. Out my way, if I buy a set of clubs over $500.00 I can have them fitted for free. Can you get Graphite clubs fitted…. I remember being told that the clubs have to be cast iron

Re: Club Fitting

James,

You will no doubt benifit from having correct fitting clubs...just like you would with correct fitting shoes.

All clubs can be fitted and it is usually free if you purchase a set. However some manufactures clubs i.e Callaway for example have to be done at the factory due to the hosel design, cast clubs can be done by the pro who is fitting you.

My only advice would be make sure you are reasonably happy with you swing and you are not a raw beginner because you swing speed may change in 6/12 months of lessons and therfore the shaft in your clubs may need to change.

If you are happy with your tempo (swing speed) etc then fitting is a must.

Hope this helps.

Ian.

Re: Club Fitting

Much obliged Ian - I think I will wait until next year - since I am a newbie - and have some clubs fitted!

Re: Club Fitting

Well worth the money i was fitted with Henry Griffitts two years ago and am wrapped at the feedback i get from them. I have noticed significant improvement in consistency. By that i mean if i have a swing problem i get the same result all the time instead of one shot going left and the next going right. At the time it cost me $50(AUD) to be fitted which was taken off the price if you purchased a set and you if not satisfied after three months they will refit you for free. Apparently this happens very rarely and it did not happen to me.

Re: Club Fitting

James,

Take a few lessons with your current clubs so that you have a repeatable swing (for better or worse), then get fitted.

It's amazing what happens to ones' swing when you put a different length club in their hand.

David Lake at 1irongolf.com has eliminated this problem - all his irons are one length.

A couple lessons first (until your swing is largely repeatable), then a fitting.

Re: Club Fitting

Hi Arch,

How are you getting on with your Henry-Griffitts clubs in particular your driver,

I had a lesson today working on the driver, been slicing it and getting no height it has a 10.5% loft, anyway the pro gave me a Henry Griffitts with a 15% loft to try and immediately I was hitting the ball straight with more height and a lot more distance, trouble is its around $700 Australian,

Appreciate your thoughts, thanks.

Regards
Chiper
