Upgrading clubs, but which ones?

Hi All

I have been playing for about a year now and have a set of entry level Wilson PT Staffs. Im now starting to play regularly (once a week) and feel its time to upgrade the set. I am still about a 26 handicap so dont want anything too professional that will mess up my game.

Was thinking about either the Wilson Deep Red II Distance Irons or PING G2

Any thoughts on these or other suggestions?

Many thanks

TaylorMade Rac OS work well for me, HT (high trajectory) is available for slower swing speeds.

If you are looking for a new set, check out Callaway or Ping - they are tops in the market for game improvement irons.

Re: Upgrading clubs, but which ones?

Might I suggest making sure it's your clubs holding you back? At a 26 HCP, There's obviously more effecting your game than just clubs.

How many lessons have you taken? How's your swing?

If you're sure it's time to step up to new gear (ie your swing is where you'd like it to be), might I suggest finding clubs with low offset, (as more offset clubs will promote more draw - and too much offset makes for nice hooks), and maybe something along the lines of a combo set? This will give you more workability around the greens, and a little more clout with your short irons.

Good luck in your search.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Re: Upgrading clubs, but which ones?

Cheers guys

Ive had about 5 lessons and definately improving. I understand what i should be doing in my swing and can usually pull it off i just need to hit another 5000 balls on the range to drum it in.

To be honest my real problem at the momment is around the green, im pretty poor at chipping and even worse at putting. I played a round on sunday and made most greens in reg or 1 or 2 over, but always seemed to 3 putt, i have great difficulty ligning up the putts even 2 foot ones.

Jamin, all Wilsons are solid bats, I would stick with them just now until your game improves, theres no point throwing a few hundred bucks away just for the sake of it.

Spend the cash on lessons instead if you must.

D.
