how best to practice with irons and woods

i am relativley new to golf and just need a few pointers. when i go to the driving range to shoot some balls should i use the tee pegs or just use the mat? like what do low handicappers do? a bit of both?

i did pretty well with my cleveland rescue club (19deg) from the mate.

when i used the 3 wood of the tee my balls just went up in the sky. maybe the tee was too big but i thought you hit the woods like the driver.

i know you should use a more sweeping swing. maybe my swing was wrong.

thanks alot for any feedback

Hit every iron and wood off the mat; leave the tee for the driver.

Don't worry, practice will help your swing out tremendously.
