| Re: Distance comparison table Gree, it sounds like you need to change your irons. Your driver distance is great but your iron distances suck something terrible!! Have you perhaps got over stiff shafts on your irons. With that kind of power with the driver you should be getting 150 metres on your 6 iron. What shaft is on your driver and what shafts are on your irons? Casting is usually caused by starting the swing with the shoulders, try and make sure you let the right shoulder stay with the hands on the way downand keep the hands with the clubhead letting the right shoulder push your chin round. Remember the cube drill: imagine the ball is a cube and you are concentrating on hitting the corner nearest your right foot. This will encourage you to throw the hands out to 1 o clock. I heard a really good tip last night on the golf channel. Power is best generated with a nice wide backswing but a narrower downswing. When I thought about it it made sense when you go back you are storing power in your coil, as you release if you swing slightly inside the plane of the backswing then the club travels less distance back to the ball and the power is most efficiently transferred to the ball. Again, one of the best tips I ever got was "if you need to hit the ball further take more club" bear that in mind, its quite possibly the easiest fix ever. But then again: Mr Sam Snead was hitting 2 irons down the range, his caddie was standing in the distance plucking the balls out of the air as the first bounce stunned into the turf and took all the forward momentum off the ball, a great demonstration of the Slammers incredible ball striking. A voice pipes up from the admiring throng "Mr Snead, how do you get backspin on a 2 iron?" Mr Snead fixed him with a withering stare "How far do you hit your 2 iron son?" "About 160 yards, sir" Mr Snead turns back to his practice "What the hell do you want it to stop for?" Classic....... D.

The good news is that I think I discovered what I was doing wrong today. Ive been seeing these high , right & short shots for the last few months and divot is always pointing left, today I figured out why. I had a dirty great big chicken wing of a right elbow with my irons, forcing me to the outside. Solved that today and was hitting the ball nicely and long, also got my draw back with my driver, which is nice ![]() Was hitting the 5Iron 150M which is fine for me with no roll and cold weather. Went around the 12 holes today in: Triple Par Par Par Par Bogie (missed a 1 foot putt, ugh!) Par Par Par Double (OB off tee) Birdie Bogie Which is nice ![]() Lets see what next week brings, but I was getting much better contact with the irons and much straighter shots. |

| Re: Distance comparison table gree your iron distances are shocking. you should be getting 180+ metres from your 5 iron working off your driver distances. you cannot be swinging the same swing with your irons as your driver. |

I know for a fact that I dont get the same width with my irons that I do with my woods, Since I know I am supposed to be sweeping the woods I seem to create a very wide, powerful arc. Playing partners have pointed it out to me that I do not do the same with my irons, still I'm getting there. |

| Re: Distance comparison table The chart is average carry. His driver distances are all including roll. All driving distances for stats are how far the ball has travelled in total (carry + roll). Also remember that the yardage chart is the distance he hits it normally. The distance you hit each club shouldn't be the furthest you can hit it, but how far you hit with your normal swing. My average 7 iron carry distance is 155 to 165 yards but if I really went for it maybe 175 but it probably wouldn't be very accurate and I probably wouldn't even connect very well on it so it would probably be a duff.

| Re: Distance comparison table I have always believed distance helps but it isn't the "be all and end all" of good scoring. Here are my distances (carry): Driver: 230m 3-wood: 210m 7-wood: 180m 4-iron: 175m 5-iron: 165m 6-iron: 155m 7-iron: 145m 8-iron: 135m 9-iron: 125m 48* PW: 110m 52*GW: 95m 56* SW: 80m 60*LW: 65m I played yesterday, I hit 12 out of 14 fairways and 16 greens. That's where breaking par comes from. Of the 16 greens I hit, 12 approaches where within 6m (18ft). |

| Re: Distance comparison table Na, +4 is more like it. Don't ask ... I'm looking for a new putter!! Normally I am an exceptionally good putter averaging around 26 or 27 putts, so I was pretty hacked off. In a normal day, yeah - with those stats 67 or 68... Bloody 76 makes me wanna vommit. Assuming you play a par 72 layout, I rekon: 6 GIR's: 6 x 2 = 12 12 NGIR: 12 x 3.3 = 40 Putts = 33 Total: 85ish |
