Unhappy New Driver Grrrrrr Help

I recently bought a taylormade bubble Ti 8.5. my other driver is a 9.5 and i was tending to sky it more often than not. But with the taylormade I am hitting it with a bit af a slice, I dont feel as if i have changed anything else apart from the club, can anybody give me a few things to try on the range to sort this problem? Thanks

Re: New Driver Grrrrrr Help

skying a 9.5 would be a swing issue and not a club issue
You might not have changed anything with the new club, but less loft means that sidespin has more control over the ball (less backspin to keep it straight)

The pro's are moving to wards the higher lofts, away from the 6,7,8's as more height, with the correct trajectory, means more distance.

Re: New Driver Grrrrrr Help

Another thing you may want to look at is the size of the 2 drivers. if the new one is bigger (or deeper) than the old one and you use the same tee height, than you may sky the ball more ofter with the smaller driver.

.....also, yea, 1 degree actually makes a big difference. i read an article in golf magazine proofing that a high percentage of average golfers are using drivers with less loft than they should be, most of them drive the ball straighter and further just by switching to a driver with a couple degree more loft. (with instant demonstration at the range.) Hope this information would help.

Re: New Driver Grrrrrr Help

1) What's your average driving distance (please indicate whether that's carry, or carry and roll).

2) If you know it, what's your swing speed?

3) Assuming that you're skying a ball (leaving marks on the top of the driver, or hitting near the top edge of the face), I would assume that you've got a pretty decent swing flaw, and that you're not crushing balls.

That said, I'm interested to know what shaft is in both of your drivers, and I'm willing to offer that you'd probably need a higher lofted driver.

To wit - I played a 9º SMT Spectrum (true loft) with an AccuFlex Evolution in R flex, and was hitting drives ~ 260 yards (carry). I switched to an SMT HP420 10º (true loft) with a Graphite Design YS6 in S flex, and started getting 270 yard carries. On a few rounds, I'd take both drivers, and hit two balls off the tee, and the HP420 was consistently longer.

This has taken me to buying a couple of SMT Nemesis heads, one at 11º and one at 12º, just to see what happens.

My swing speed is ~ 108 MPH with a 45" driver.

Just some food for thought.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
