3wood vs Driver

Hi mates,

just arrived back from the Driving Range. I've been trying out the right hand tip from Greg. GREAT TIP.

Ok. my problem is I'm hitting my 3 Wood around the 225 Meter marker but my Driver only around 200 meters.

The 3 wood and Driver are from Callaway the wood is a War Bird, the Driver a C4.

Any ideas why?

I'm sure you guys will have a tip or two up you sleeve.

Is the ball flight similar with both clubs?

What are the lofts, and what are the shafts (and flexes)?

[left][ok, the 3 wood is a Big Bertha War Bird with a 15° loft a Titanium head and Shaft. The shaft has been specialy made for the club, normaly it is a Graphite shaft. the flex ist stiff
The Driver is a Callaway Big Bertha C4 with a Cabon head and a Graphite shaft with 9° loft. The flex is normal/LEFT]

Not being familiar with the Callaway line, I would make a couple assumptions:

1) Your Ti 3 wood has a hotter face - meaning more distance..

2) You don't have enough loft in your driver - hence your loss of distance.

3) I'm particularily perplexed by a stiff steel shaft in your 3 wood, but a regular graphite in your driver.

How's the ball flight in both those clubs?

Just by the setup on the 3 wood I feal confident and the club feals real good. The clubhead size is like my old Driver from 20 years ago. The flight is also similar.
When setting up with the Driver I just can't get out of my head the head is Bloody big. The flight seems faily low.

I hope with a bit of practice I'll learn to be able to use the club. Maybe in the spring I'll take a lesson with the local Pro.

I'd daresay that you need more loft on your Driver.

The other option is to go with an older (smaller) driver. There's plenty floating around eBay.

I found going from my Mizuno Blue Rage 9 Degree to a Callaway Big Bertha Titanium 10.5 Degree really solved my issue with short drives. But another thing to check is your tee height... If you're not used to the large driver head, maybe you are setting your tee too low?

I try to get it so that just over a 1/3rd of the ball is visible over the clubhead (as if you're watching from behind your address.) To do this I set up, take a step back with the club still there and just double check.

dont know if this will help but i tee the ball up on my ping g2 so i can see half the ball above the club from behind , mark the tee in the ground then simply mark all my other tees with the one i set up and they are always the same height,so if the ball doesnt travel in the same trajectory path i know its not the tee but its a fault with my swing.

Could even mark em up for irons + woods...
