one eyed golfer

I am a lefthaned golfer; I have been playing 2 years now. I also am blind in my right eye. I have difficulty reading greens due to lack of depth perception. Additionally, I play all clubs forward in my stance to compensate for the lost eye. Is there anyone else out here who plays with monocular vision? Also, any advice for minimizing this handicap/green reading etc...

Intrestingly, there is a "plub-bob" method that you use one eye closed (or at least I do). Stand about 10 feet behind the ball in a crouch low to the ground, and take the putter by 2 fingers in the top of the grip. Let it hang and intersect the ball with one side of the shaft. If you see the hole to the right of the shaft, the putt breaks right, to the left, it breaks left. How much depends on a few factors: The number of breaks in that putt, the length of the putt and if you are going up or down. Generally, if it is a flat putt, and you have 1 break the amount of break is equal to the width of the true visual from about the same length behind the ball that the ball is from the hole.

Judging distance with 1 eye is tough. The only thing I can suggest is always walk off the putts to know the exact distance within 1 yard (1 stride). Then drill like mad the putter distance drill where you regulate the distance with the length you take the putter head back.

Sorry, but what does it mean when you say you play all clubs forward in your stance, and how does that help you..... I have limited vision in my right eye and I am wondering if I should do the same...

I play all clubs even/slightly behind my right foot...Know i have never taken lessons and this might just be to compensate for a terrible swing! That said, I seem to strike the ball better and have fewer mis-hits than if i plat it farther back.....

I am a 57 y.o. one eyed golfer as the unfortunate result of a retinal detachment in my left eye 6 months ago. I am right handed. I was a 10 index before losing my left eye sight. I have found that playing the ball off the back foot (nearer the good eye) works a lot better for me. Playing the ball off the front foot (closer to the bad eye) would seem to work against you. Centering the ball over the good eye gives you more balance and a quieter body when you are making your swing. If you make a simple swing with minimal head motion you should be pleased with the result. As for putting- all puts start off as straight puts anyway, so distance becomes your controlable factor. The breaks are hard to see and read so just try to not be the first one to putt on the hole. Chip it close and pay careful attention to what the other putts are doing (as well how your own chip shot rolled). Good Luck!!!

I am a recent one eyed golfer (unluck nerve damage with unlucky surgery). I have lost the right eye, which was the dominant eye. I am 66. I play the ball in the middle and experiment with where to look(focus) when I swing. I was 9 before I lost sight and now I hardly keep score. I top the ball and hit it thin a lot. I hit it solid on the driving range since I can "find a groove" with continuous identical swings. On the course, it just keeps missing. The best so far is to place the ball in the middle and focus just behind (from 1/2 inch for wedges to 2.5 for the driver), kinda where the old eye would focus when it focused. It seems that the muscle memory remembers this. I would love to hear any other suggestions. I am dying to play well again.

PS: Forgot to address the green reading. Be sure that any errors you encounter during a putt are from misreading and a cockeyed alignment because of the one eye. Maybe have someone stand behind you and check whether the ball is rolling over some pre-established check points. Then of course it is the read.
