Steel or Graphite: Fairway Woods? Sup guys, I'm debating about switching my recently bought V-Steel Taylormade 3 wood to a steel shaft, because right now I have graphite and it feels so weird when I swing it, like I mean real weird. It feels whippy and I feel like I can never make true contact with it, and if I do its all over the place. I can hit my 3 wood around 240 if I connect solid but thats rare with this shaft. Do you think it would benefit me to get a steel shaft which has more control and is stiffer? Thanks guys

Re: Steel or Graphite: Fairway Woods? haha funny story yeah youre old enough to have steel shafts in your irons i have a 3 wood and 5 wood with dynamic gold steel shafts, you have to put a swing on them to get them in the air, its your choice but i wish i would of got graphite

Re: Steel or Graphite: Fairway Woods? I went to a local shop having its winter sale. I tried out a set of Mizuno clubs with stiff shafts. After the saleman asked me how far I hit a 5 iron (130 to 150) he wouldn't let me buy them. He said you need the reg flex shafts. Wanted to but a Mizuno 3-W had senior flex shafts. The guy wouldn't let me buy them either. He said I'd rather have me happy with the clubs than make a sale. And he was sure I wouldn't like the clubs with the wrong shaft. My lesson is the shaft makes a difference. If your using soft shafts made for a slow swing and as you've gotten stronger, you need stiffer shafts.

Re: Steel or Graphite: Fairway Woods? I play stiff graphite in my irons, and firm in the woods. My three wood is steel and hurts my elbow if I hit more than a dozen shots with it. I am now looking for an Orlimar 16 deg Trimetal Plus wood with firm or stiff Graphite shaft. I am convinced that you will have less injuries in your arms and back if you use graphite shafts - just my thoughts tho'
