Cold Weather - How does it affect you?

Hi all,

I played at the weekend and found my game really went pete tong or in other words very wrong I had a round score of 105.

The reason I am blaming the weather instead of me is that I was playing behind a 4 ball which where taking ages in finishing holes and wouldnt let me play through. I was waiting roughly 5 to 10 minutes before I could take my shot. It was a cold day average temp about 5 degC so by 10 holes down I was starting to get very cold.

I was wondering who else has had experiance like this and what they do to warm up. As jumping up and down with a club in your hand make you look like some mad man.

Cheers
Mark

Re: Cold Weather - How does it affect you?

Mark,

It's a pain in the a*se living in the UK innit!? I feel like this winter has lasted a year and I can't wait for summer. I may have to move to Florida.

Anyhoo, playing behind slow fourballs is a nightmare whatever time of year it is. When it's cold though, it just seems to magnify the issues it causes.

In the cold, your muscles aren't relaxed with all the shivering (even though you may not feel like it, you probably are! Nobody can wear that jumper granny knitted you AND swing a golf club effectively, so us golfers would rather freeze but swing nicely!). As a result of shivering, you are using energy far too much and get tired quicker, and you're more tense. Also, balls can fly anything up to 30 yards less (depending on just how cold it is) and there's no run, so sometimes you can expend even more energy and lose shape just by trying to convince yourself you ARE a man and you CAN hit a 7 iron further than 130 yards! Add to that not getting any sense of rythm cos you're hanging around and you've got the recipe for golfing disaster.

Don't take too much bad stuff from winter rounds. Just practice your short game, work on any swing changes and get ready for summer, the time of year in which the game was designed to be played!

Re: Cold Weather - How does it affect you?

Very Right The Game Was Designed To Be Played During The Summer, As You Say This Winter Just Seems To Go On And On,still The Summer Will Be Here Soon ,i For One Have Given Up On Beating Myself Up During The Winter Months ,when In Fact There Really Isnt Much Wrong With My Game Its Just To Cold To Perform.
You See The Pros Follow The Sun , If They Had To Play Through The Winter In The Uk They Would Struggle To Achieve The Same Scoring Stats As They Do Els Where.

hi guys,
have to agree with everthing you said got so naffed off having to wait for 4ball in front who wont let you through makes you feel like taking up another sport. the worst thing about winter is creaming your drive straight down the fairway then not being able to find the little b*****d! LOL

Thumbs up Re: Cold Weather - How does it affect you?

Slow play can be very annoying particularly in cold weather.I was always taught if you are making a complete mess of a hole pick up your ball and move on. It seems some guys are determined to hole out regardless of how many strokes.I now find golf in very cold weather a complete waste of time, once you have lost any feel in your hands, much better stay in clubhouse and treat yourself to a large malt whisky

Re: Cold Weather - How does it affect you?

Hi Mark,

The important thing is that you don't let it spoil you game in the future, I know it's a pain but it has no reflection on your game and don't start thinking that your games gone off.

Just give them space and practice your short game every time you get to the green, while you wait....unless of course someone is following you.

Don't panic

The weather is warming up.

Ian.
