Question Got a question about clubs

How is everyone doing? I have a question about irons. i am now 23 years old and have been playing since I was about 14. I am on my second set of clubs. I am now using Square Two PCI's. I got them when I was 18 and shooting consistanly in the 100's. No I am shooting in the mid to high 80's. Most of this improvement is due to hard work and really studing my swing over the years and fixing the space between my ears. My question is...would getting a new set of clubs help me take my game tot he next level? I feel my swing is pretty good right now and I am inbetween on this question. I have heard that getting new clubs will improve your game, but I also think that chipping and putting better is the key. I am just interested on everyone's opinion. thanks

Re: Got a question about clubs

You did not say if your present set of clubs were fitted to your swing. If not, and you were to get properly fitted with the new clubs you are thinking about, I would think you would see some improvement in you game. Clubs when properly fitted to someone's swing by a qualified club fitter usually will play better over clubs that are just bought off the rack. I am not familiar with your present set of clubs, but it might be possible to have your present set adjusted to fit your swing better. Again, a qualified club fitter would know if your present set could be adjusted. Hope this helps....GJS

Re: Got a question about clubs

From what I can see from your profile, you are now 23 and you bought the clubs when you were 18, which makes them 5 years old. In terms of technology that's ancient! But, that doesn't mean they're no good - let me just clarify that before I get any death threats!!!

When I get asked about equipment, I almost always say the same thing: try some different equipment to what you have now ... new technology does make a difference, it makes golf so much easier than it was 3 or 5 or 10 years ago. You have to experiment with them before you get the definitive answer, there is no "paper answer" for it.

Of course the short game is important but even that is equipment related to an extent. Good wedges, a well suited putter and golf balls make the short game easier too.

So my opinion: go and try some new equipment and the results will give you the answer.
