Re: How important is the ball?

I will try different balls. I think I have a medium swing, but it is getting faster. How do you define your swing speed if you don't have a radar?

I liked the consumer report and our local sports store has Nike Power Soft. I have a feeling that that might be my ball. It's affordable and should have a nice touch near greens.

Hi mate,

Well my understanding is that the pts is designed for spin but I may be wrong. If I personally was in your situation I would probably choose the following and try them out by etheir getting on a simulator or play 9 holes on your course (I sometimes just play the back 9 as they have 2 par 3s on it to test your spin of the tee) with it to see how it feels. My choice are
1) Srixon - Soft feel
2) Callaway - HX Hot
3) Maxfli - MAX Distance high launch
4) Nike - Distance Power Soft
5) Topflite - XL Extreme Straight

Also by meaning no offence to you but until you sort out your problem why not try some ladies balls as these are designed for usually lower swing speeds and are often low in spin.

Hope it helps
Cheers
Mark

Hi Hannu,

Glad you might now be getting sorted with a ball you like. As regards to your swing speed then this is usually done with lasers on the simulator, well thats where I got mine from anyway.

Cheers
Mark

Re: How important is the ball?

For a competition - how many balls do you take?

(added later... I read on golf rules that max amount of balls on a competition is 14 / round)

I bought 3 dozen for £35 of these Maxfli Rev Tours as they were so cheap... let me tell you.... Going from my last Callaway HX Red in my bag to these balls half way through a round REALLY messed up my game.... I just couldnt seem to hit them as confidently after I'd messed a few shots up.

Re: How important is the ball?

How much do the weight of golf balls change?
I played with mixed set of balls and it was windy today. I hit a "new" ball and it just did not fly. I had a feeling that it was lighter than other balls?
Can this be true?
(Our greens are not opened - just the fairways - so I have not been so exact with different balls - just trying to get a clean contact.)

Ah. More confirmation that personal distances and accuracy come down to two things: Your clubs and the ball you play.

It's the main reason I don't play multiple balls during a round. I even try to avoid changing balls round-to-round.

Lol. I gave away all the Maxfli in my bag to my playing partner in the end... I think after 2 horrendous rounds, some of my issue was to do with actually being scared of where the ball was gonna end up!

Anyway, I've got my stock of HX Red back, and yesterday I had the best round I've played recently.
