Unhappy golf can be a cruel game

this game of ours can be so very cruel!
was really looking forward to my saturday morning fourball got to the course at 6.30am had a session in the nets and did some stretching.
we walked to the first tee and commented on how nice it was to be playing in warm dry weather.i waited my turn to tee off watched as my partners all played great tee shots i went through my pre-shot routine, set up and pulled the trigger straight into OOB! the first 9 holes followed the same path so im at 61 at the turn!
i was so naffed off i wanted to call it a day but i stayed with it thinking i could turn things round on the back 9 and i did i carded 60!
heres the cruel bit how can you spend nearly 350 pounds on gear and tuition in the last few weeks and practise every day and still be cr*p at the job!

Slats,
Join the club.! Went to my club today foll of positive thoughts. Have been ripping it on the range. First four holes, level par. Then I developed a shank on my iron play. Felt so low. Cant understand the difference between the range and the course. Any suggestions?
Robert.

Re: golf can be a cruel game

thanks greg thats a great way of looking at it
thanks ian i know that you are so right so i need to lower my expectations a little.
hi robert imo the reason that the two are so different is that at the range you are maybe hitting 10 shots with the same club off the mat and on the course every shot is a different club and lie.
take yesterday for me my tee shots started out bad and the more you try the worse it gets and after tee shot the lie is uphill, downhill and ball above and below feet shots we are not used to playing and so it goes on
im thinking at the moment to forget the fourball and spend the time practising

Re: golf can be a cruel game

Hi mate,

Dont worry all about it as I had a simular experiance on thursday. The sun was cracking the pavement. So I was playing with my boss and a couple of clients. Anyway we thought of making it intresting and have a match play game with the loser team giving £10 each to the winners. Sound brill to me as the previous weekend I was on form.

I tee'd up at the first and also was the last player to play so with everyone watching I hit a 5 iron long and straight which landed in front of the green (Hole one is par 4 280 yrds but with a downward slope to the pin, if you hit it right your in water save is left but carefull not to over shoot it). I ended up birding this one and first point was to us.

Now it was my go first to drive a long par 5 at 520 yrds, so biggy came out of back hit a fantastic tee shot that went long and straight plus out of sight, but new it was a great shot. All others didnt get close to me in the end I par'd this hole, so yet again another point 2 nil to us. I was on a high that was until the 3rd tee.

A 425 yrds par 4, so driver came out yet again as I do consider this my strong point. I dont know what happened but I ended up duffing up this shot that went 150 yrds left hit a tree bouncing back another 50 yrds. This was the start of the next 11 holes being like this driving into trouble, bad lies, too many puts, wind causing problems by sudden gusts, you name it I had it on those 11 holes.

In the end the customer beat us 10 - 5 to them.

So like you slater we do all have bad days which makes you think of taking up golf sorry fishing instead.

Have a fun weekend
Cheers
Mark
