Angry What do you tell the wife?

Hi all,

I have a wife who doesn't like me to golf.

What do you all tell your wives?

Help me out here, I need some fresh ammo to fight with the wife.
It's like she is jealous or something.

It's like this, I work 12 hours a day easily. I need some fricking fresh air once or twice a week. She says I am wasting time, we fight, she wins, I end up pissed off and pouting for a week.

Please share your best lines with me!!!!

TIA

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Well mines a great tip for you.

Get your wife into golf. Take her out on a par 3 course and let her use your 7 iron and putter. Give her a few tips and pointers then let the magic of golf attract her. It usually happens when she hits the ball 50 yrds, but if that dosent work say this is a great way to keep fit and to see mother nature.

This is what I done to my wife and we go golf together once every two weeks. It gives me brownie points cause I am spending time with her and I am doing somthing which I enjoy.

The bad points are her laughing at you when your shot is duffed up and go's into the water (still can never get use to it). At times like these you want to throw her into the water lol . Also don't let her see your top of the range balls or she will want them as well.

Cheers
Mark

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Tough one here,

Tell her you were on the verge of leaving her for your tall slim sexy blonde secretary, UNTIL you discovered golf and now you want to play twice every week and take her out every Saturday night instead,

p.s You drive....................so your not hung over for the Sunday comp.

If this fails try telling her you know golf is very sad but it's too late your an addict and there is know cure todate.

Ian.

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Does your wife have a hobby or something she likes to do? What does she expect you to dom otherwise ?

IMHO its healthy to have seperate interests. It's also your time and provided you dont have any other responsibilities (i.e. kids) i'd just go play. Golf is more important

BTW Ian's the man to ask , he managed to persaude his missus to let him build a putting green in his back garden ... what a bloke !

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Hi Burnaby,
Sounds to me like she is in control! Why not introduce her to the game? A good one for me to play twice in a week, is to tell her "its a two day competition and I have such a fantastic card from day 1! Wouldnt that crystal lamp look lovely on your bedside locker honey?" Or. my buddies wives are going shopping while they golf. "here honey 100 euro, why not join the girls? Only problem is its an expensive way to keep her happy.
Cheers,
Robert

Re: What do you tell the wife?

I got my wife into the game. We try to golf every sunday morning together, but usually turns out to be about every other sunday.

I don't know what I'd do if my wife wouldn't allow me to golf. Probably become an alcoholic. Golf is the best stress release I've found. When I'm on the course I don't think of anything else.

If you work 12+ hours a day. You deserve to go golfing. Just make sure to do something with her at least one night a week.

Best of Luck.

Re: What do you tell the wife?

I play golf to get the away from my wife for a while, getting her involved sounds like a bad idea....but different strokes for different folks.

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Couple of things. To get her involved with the game, have her join you on the greens. By that I mean if it is a par 5, get her a putter, and have her start putting on the the green from the farthest point from the pin. Her par for that hole would be 5 putts. 3 putts on a par 3, and 4 putts on a par 4. Mean while, you are still trying to make par from the tee box. This scenario promotes some friendly competition between the two of you. After she starts getting better at putting, the pressure lands on you to play better golf. After she starts playing under par on the greens, she might be hooked enough on the game to start playing from just off the green. If she contiues to stay hooked, then move her back to the 150 marker, while supplying her with the appropriate clubs. Also, always let her drive the cart, but never introduce her to the cart girl

If that does not work, then buy her something nice on your way home from the course everytime.

If the two ideas above don't work, then sell your clubs, and start hanging out at the local topless bar, trying to cure your with drawal symptoms, with your excuse being "well, you wouldn't let golf." You may want to seek legal advice on this idea...GJS

Re: What do you tell the wife?

Interesting thoughts gents,

I think though that you need time away from your partner and it is good to have different interests.

From a female's perspective though - I'd be getting shitty if my husband worked 12 hours a day and wanted to spend more time away from home or me and the children.

I suggest in addition to playing golf without your wife, you start wining an dining her or doing some other hobby together on a regular basis.

You might get lucky in two areas then, ie, golf and .

I don't know what you do for a living, but at 12h/day I would try to come up with some way to have meetings with "Mr. Green" (if you know what I mean).

Trust me it is a very big contract and it will take at least 4h to hammer out the details.

Re: What do you tell the wife?

We may treat the issue with some humour, but this sounds like a very serious matter. Try to encourage her to join you at the range or maybe an occasional 9 hole for fun. Maybe you can take an interest in her hobbies, sharing leisure time together in her activities may encourage her to share more time with you, or at least understand your need to golf.
If everything else fails, consider alternative employment with fewer working hours, so that you have more time available for family and leisure. The peace of mind may be well worth the reduced income.
