Thumbs down Re: David Leadbetter Swing Setter

I think the majority of so called swing trainers are over hyped and vastly overpriced . OK, maybe I'm being cynical Ijust happen to think some pros. would endorse just about anything for the right price.

Re: David Leadbetter Swing Setter

Back to Leadbetter Swing Setter,

I can't understand the magnetic snap on the backswing.
What this encourages to do and what for?

Can someone help , please

Toni.

Re: David Leadbetter Swing Setter

It's a 'tick-tock' system. The tick is when you set your wrists, and the tock is for the release.

Re: David Leadbetter Swing Setter

I purchased the swing setter six months ago. It aims to set your swing on the correct path and encourage release. When you cock the wrists in the backswing then the middle balls snap, fine, then when you swing through impact the end ball snaps great. However you can swing way on the outside and the middle ball still snaps and again you can downswing way from the inside or outside and the end ball still snaps. It is the worst game improvement product i have ever purchased.

Re: David Leadbetter Swing Setter

I built a training aid recently that gives me the click at the proper release point. Here is a brief idea as to what I did. I took an old seven iron and removed the head. Then I slid a 3 inch (5 cm) piece of copper tubing on the shaft. The copper (aluminum could be used as well) tubing is smaller in diameter than the butt end but larger than the tip end. Make sure that it will slide easily up and down the shaft as you swing. Now epoxy the head back on the shaft. You now have a practice club that you can feel and hear a click at the proper release point on the downswing.

Re: David Leadbetter Swing Setter

I think the general principal of the swinger setter is right, it encourages the wrist cock on the backswing i.e the middle ball is meant to snap as you cock the wrists. The end ball is meant to snap as you release on the downswing. There are 4 settings 1 for slower swing speeds ( the magnetic contact is less) through to 4 for faster swing speeds. However even with it set on 1 the only way you will get the middle ball to snap is to take it away far faster than you would ever swing a club on course. You really have to over do it with the wrist cock to enable the middle ball to snap. I am not sure if this is good or bad.It is certainly not like swinging a club. The device has done nothing for my game however it may suit others. I am a bit sceptical.

Regards Bogeygolfer.
