Aussie Aussie Aussie

Geoff Ogilvy From down under, has won the US Open. Congrats to Geoff who finished 5 over, and won it due to the fact the both colin and Phil both finished with doubles on the 72 hole.

Cool Re: Aussie Aussie Aussie

Geoff going for the chip on the 17th was probably taking as much risk as Phil trying those shots on the 18th. His 5 over was good enough on the day, and in the final analysis he held his nerve and won the Open. Lets celebrate with him! Lefty's turn will come .....eventually.

Re: Aussie Aussie Aussie

I think there is a huge difference in Geoff's chip and Phil's second shot as far as risk goes.

The chances of pulling it off may be the same, but the risk isn't even comparable.

Geoff's trying to win a tournament and needed to pull out all the stops to win. At that point, if he doesn't make the chip he'd be 2 off the lead with one to play. Nobody would think that Monty and Phil would both fold going down the stretch so he did what he HAD to do, and that was try to sink the chip.

Phil on the other handed need to come out with bogey or better. In my mind Phil took a huge risk. He pulls off the low percentage shot and wins the open or he doesn't and bogey may be a tough score to get.
He pitches out to the fairway, bogey is very very likely. But still the ability to hit it close and one putt for the open. Double is unlikely from the fairway.

I can monday caddie like everybody else and second guess his dicisions. But in truth he was playing russian roullete with his driver all day. Was very lucky to find as many open chambers in the pistol as he did. Hitting only 2 fairways on the final day of the open usually spells an 85, but he was poised to win it.

Sorry to take away from the Geoff thread a bit.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!!
