| Re: Backspin
Personally I get the most backspin from a 3/4 wedge shot rather than a full swing, possibly as I have the ball further back in my stance. Any less than 1/2 swing and I don't generate enough clubhead speed to hold the ball on the face long enough to spin it too much. While dragging the ball back after landing looks very cool and "tour-like", the best shot is one that takes one hop after landing and then stops dead, i.e. a shot that has spin, but not too much. This means that you can attack pins by firing directly at them rather than shooting over them and relying on spin (which tends to be inconsistent) to draw the ball back to the hole. I use Vokey wedges too and they are perfect for this sort of shot.

| Re: Backspin Unfortunately I think that it's just a matter of practise before you will manage to do this. Also, all factors I mentioned must be present to some extent. If you are hitting the ball onto a non-receptive green, then it will be very difficult to get the ball to reverse. The important thing is that you are getting more spin using the techniques I mentioned than you were before. The better your shot is, the more backspin you will generate. If that is occuring, then after a while you will start to see your ball stopping shorter and then eventually dragging back.

| Re: Backspin Hi Adam, You need all the things thats have been said, soft ball (pro v1) or similar, off the fairway to a soft green. If you hit the ball well and take a divot after the ball then it's simply a case of club head speed you are lacking, I spin the ball about 6/7 feet in winter but rarely a couple of feet best in summer, you need good soft greens. If you can stop a wedge from 100yds within a couple of feet then you doing ok, back end of the year you will start to see good backspin. Hope this helps Ian.

| Re: Backspin Hi, 1/ you have to use a high spinning ball! You havent got a chance on spinning the ball with a top flite or anything. 2/ The pros greens are PERFECT so they are going to get spin EASY! 3/ You have to hit down on the ball and your divot needs to be after the ball. Cheers, Ricky |
