Re: lefthand magic? I think you might have stumbled across one side of an argument about the golf swing i.e. that "the golf action consists mainly of a FREE SWING OF THE LEFT HAND AND ARM to the top...and down again into and through the ball". I have just started working on this and like you i find that (coupled with a more controlled tempo - which might be just as important) I'm hitting the ball better. However there are plenty of advocates of a body (not arm) swing and imho anything that gets anyones club to the ball on line and square to that line is the right swing for them Been posted before but have a look at. http://www.golftoday.co.uk/proshop/tuition/index.html

Re: lefthand magic? I don’t know about the "free swing" stuff, but it seems you’ve discovered what many players and instructors believe.....the right hand and arm should not dominate the swing. Left and right co-equal is okay. The right side applying power at the right time is okay. Right hand/arm controlling from start to finish is bad. I think you can imagine how the right can pull you off plane on the back swing or allow you to take the club back without a full shoulder turn or allow you to bend the left arm too much or allow you to loosen or regrip at the top. Swing destroyers. On the way down, it can cause you to cast the club, among other things. You’ve basically eliminated all possibility of the right side taking over.....you’re not using it at all! However, in the long run, you’ll be sacrificing distance and control. Now that you’ve got the feel, try to incorporate the right side without allowing it to take over. Good luck.

Re: lefthand magic? Hi rob, No affense but do you ever stop experimenting? You always seem to experiment. You will find you will never improve by doing different moves and swing techniques everytime you are at the range!

Re: lefthand magic? Hi Robert. The trailing hand (bottom hand) is the dominant hand for most people, ( if you play right-handed, then your trailing or bottom hand, will be your right hand). It is important that this hand is positioned to deliver a powerful blow at impact without overpowering the lead (or top) hand. The hands must work together in the grip; therefore their placement is vital for consistent ball striking. I'm all for experimenting, only by experimenting will we eventually find what we are looking for. Good luck pal ![]()
