Holding my breath...

I have just become aware of something that I am not sure is correct.

I notice that on every shot I make long, short Irons, driver ..all of them, I tend to "Hold my breath" though the whole shot. I don't know if this is correct or not.

Anyone have any advice on this? Should I be exhaling through the shot or breathing naturally or hold my breath? I have never seen this mentioned in all the golf literature I have read.

Thanks,

Chessbum...

This means you are very tense! Try loosening your shoulders up abit and light grip pressure.

Re: Holding my breath...

What about the breathing though? Should I be breathing through the hitting sequence or not??

Re: Holding my breath...

Exhale slowly prior to your full swing. And you should be just about empty when you start...

Re: Holding my breath...

Greg ,

Thanks for the reply. After exhaling slowly as you say, should I be taking in air during the swing or not?

Thanks again,

Chessbum...

Re: Holding my breath...

In weight lifting, sort of similar in a way, you're supposed to exhale as you exert yourself.

Re: Holding my breath...

James is right. But you should not be exhaling hard at all. Almost still in breath...why I like to be almost out when I start. Clears the mind with a taught tummy. And I don't breath in until after impact.

This is not gospel. Just what I do.

Re: Holding my breath...

That reminds me...One of my friends told me this joke.

If you want to mess your buddy during a round, ask him "Do you breathe before or after a swing"

Did somebody ask you Chessbum? :-)

Re: Holding my breath...

Thanks everyone. I am going to try it tomorrow. No, Ranga no one told me your joke. I just happened to notice that I had been holding my breath through the whole swing and I had no clue as to what is the right way.
