woosie's picks

who was it now that thought woosie's picks were weak links?
westwood has hit some form but darren clarke has been a revelation!
darren has played some superb golf this weekend at a very difficult time in his life but he has more than repaid the trust woosie put in him
good on yer darren

Re: woosie's picks

The 3rd consecutive win for the Europeans.

This is the biggest competition in Golf for the fans and you could tell by the noise today.

US had the top 3 golfers in the world but too many of them seemed to hide when they were needed.

The team spirit from the European team looked first class and you could see how badly they wanted it.

I am chuffed.

great result for woosie and europe, thought every player played his part in a wonderful win, the croud on the first tee were amazing, made the hairs on my neck stand up when monty walked on, cink played some great golf stopping sergio. also a great win for golf in the way it was played and suported.

Re: woosie's picks

It seems to me that the difference between the euro team and the usa team is comittment. let me explain.
The majority of the american players on the US TOUR are playing soley for the large pay checks.
The players on the EURO TOUR are striving to be the very best that they can be, regardless of pay checks.
You only have to look at the difference in in world ranking points between Tiger Woods and the next US TOUR player and you will notice a huge gap.

The big difference between tiger woods and the rest of the US team is that he is continually striving to be the very best and until the rest of the US team adopt this attitude they will never beat europe.

Re: woosie's picks

That might have been true two years ago when the US was just dominated. It was the reason given then and made sense. This year, the story was different. The US was learning to stop the "me-only-me" attitude and work better as a team. The main difference was that Euro has had the taste of domination, belief that they are a better "team" and that the standings individually just really does not matter. Home team advantage is worth 2 points easily, so this leaves the US still trailing. Hats off and congratulations! Some of the greatest shots and highlights in RC history.

(Return back to the US in 2 years and I bet the scores will be within a 1/2 point either way. We won't lie down that easily.)

Greg.
Unless you failed to notice. you were dominated this time also ( exact same score as 2 years ago ).
It is a well known fact that US players are very rarely successful outside of the US these days( except Tiger ). why do you think that is ? ( bet he doesn't answer )

( team spirit is not my issue .... just the desire to be the very best ,and not very rich )

Re: woosie's picks

hi
i think what aftford says is true the college system turns our players to make money and even someone well doew the list still can make $700,000 without really winning anything, it is so much built on money in the us now.
why come and play in the open when you can play in the us to a weak tournement and make the cut and you get paid $70,000,
greg norman won the open 20 years ago and was paid £70,000 if you were 19th you got £7,250.
212 in the us money list tom byrum has $101,094 for this year and thats over $6,277,713 since he turned pro. any one heard of him ????
you can turn up and play and get a nice cheque without even trying to win of be in the top 20.
i hope the player never get paid for playing in the ryder cup as its about winning the cup not the money

Re: woosie's picks

Here is my two cents...because Tiger is dominating the PGA tour, every one else has lost that win or nothing fire, they just play for second and money, then when RC comes along, you just can't turn that "I gotta win fire back on". When Jack was in his prime and dominating like Tiger, you didn't see Arnie, Player, Trevino, Casper, Chi-Chi...jeez the list goes on, they didn't lay down, and they didn't play for second, so when RC came along they still had that win at all cost fire burning.

Re: woosie's picks

hi gonavy
i think you have a point, think only cink really had any drive to win and you could see he wanted to win bad,
but like i was saying before the pros now make a good living just making the odd cut every now and then, bak with jack and lee and the reast they had to live in motels or even sleep in there cars befor a tour match, and gary player had to make the cut to make money just to eat, all so diffrent now, tiger was paid $10,000,000 beftre he even turned pro, and hes not the only only one thats paid like that in usa, if you look at player in the 100 to 200 of there money list its hard to find 10 that you have heard off, over here there still seemed to be that will to win, if you look at karlsson on the last day with tiger he did not lye down and made a match of it,
with the number of pros in usa we here should never win the ryder cup.

Re: woosie's picks

The Ryder Cup was decided by several mediocore to bad shots by the USA, considering the strength of the Euros every shot by the USA needed to be perfect.

Re: woosie's picks

I still admire tiger for still even playing this game competitively, he must have so so much drive and determination. It would be so easy to just get lazy and give up with MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of money in the bank but he is such a strong character and great person its showing that he really is play golf to actually WIN! And not for money! I think he and vijay singh are the only players that actually play TO WIN and not for the money!
