Winter workout

Just a thought,

For us in the UK we are slowly drifting towards winter and I have just had my first lesson since last winter with the exception of one mid season video lesson for checking purposes.

I am starting to work on my little cast when trying to hard.

What are you working on.

Ian.

Re: Winter workout

I find it hard to work on putting during the winter, the greens are ususally not as true as they are in the summer.
Striking and contact are what I try to work on.

Re: Winter workout

This winter will be one of hitting into the net in my garage.

Tools to ensure I'm not screwing myself come spring:

Inside approach: I have an OTT move when I get aggressive. The IA should help me stop that.

Plane stick: My natural tendency is to take the shaft too far under plane - further enhancing my OTT move, as I'm too flat. When I'm on plane, however, I hit a lot of great balls.

Video Camera: This one's self explanatory. Taping my hitting session once or twice a week should help ID flaws.

Internet Lessons: I've got a few prepaid lessons still with my coach. This should help with the Video Camera.

Golf Simulator: One trip per month to check that I'm not hooking/slicing anything too badly.

Putting mat: This one's pretty obvious. I've got a 'classic' putting mat (raised hole, gravity return) and a Boomerang. Both great tools, both going to see crazy use this winter (I hope).

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Re: Winter workout

I am still going to keep on playing in the winter rain or sunshine just not the snow lol. I am going to work on taking divots with my irons, lots of bunker play and also try to learn how to fade my driver.

Cheers
Mark

Re: Winter workout

Same here. I'm right in the middle of the Cheshire Gap and were protected from the worst of the wintery weather. It rains alot though so it's always soggy, but playable. It's just the days are so short about 8 hours of playable daylight, so there is no chance of a round after work. I imagine in Scotland the days are even shorter. It kind of ruins thing slightly. only left to do is hit the range or do some indoor putting and chipping.

Re: Winter workout

hi
yes we have light from about 9 till 3 in the winter so only 6 hrs you can play golf, but it better than none at all like some inland courses the have snow on them for 8/9 weeks. we did play once on a snow course, they brush the greens off so no snow but the fairways have and inch or two of snow, we use orange balls, was a fun day out but not something i would do a lot lol.

Re: Winter workout

More focus and stretching, strenghthening and aerobics in the winter. Started going to the gym - 20 minutes of aerabics 5-6 times per week, lifting light weights not more than 30 pounds in 3 sets of 8, stretching - particulary my back which has been giving me all kinds of problems the past month and swing a heavy club and staying in balance and being able to hold the finishe position.

Re: Winter workout

As 90% of the game is mental, I will try to develop my mental game. I do not know how this is possible - but I will figure it out.

About technique in winter practice, I think it is most impostant not to develop bad happits. After last winter I had a terrible slice, but it did not show hitting from a mat. On grass it was really bad.

Re: Winter workout

I'd like to play golf in the winter too. Here - up north it's little difficult. I have suggested that we could build a winter golf course on the lake. I heard that some one has played golf on ice and snow few ears a go.

I think that best practice is to play golf. If you don't have time or otherwise it's not possible, then you need to do some drills or indoor practice range.
